| With the rapid development of Internet technology in the digital era, digital reading has become widely popular, among which, youth digital reading shows high length and frequency, and continues to develop at a younger age,and the penetration rate of children’s digital reading is increasingly high. The family environment has a direct impact on the development of children’s digital reading, and parents are an integral part of it.This paper explores the influence of different factors, such as parents’ decision-making,on preschool children’s digital reading from the perspective of parents as actual consumers of children’s digital reading products. This study was conducted mainly using questionnaire survey method and semistructured in-depth interviews. In the questionnaire survey, the researcher established the parents of children aged 2-6 in urban areas as the target population, and focused on the main city of Chongqing as the distribution city.307 valid questionnaires were obtained, with an effective rate of 95.6%.At the same time, parents of children aged 2-6 were also used as the interviewees in the in-depth interview survey, and a total of 30 interviewees(fathers or mothers)from 30 groups of families in four cities, namely Chongqing,Wanzhou,Chengdu, and Mianyang, were interviewed in depth.Firstly, the current situation is analyzed through the survey, which summarizes that the current digital reading of urban preschool children has the characteristics of fragmented reading scenes, diversified reading methods,three-dimensional reading types and low willingness to consume reading.Secondly,we analyzed the way parents influence children’s digital reading. The main findings are: different motivations influence parents’ attitudes toward children’s digital reading;parents’ media literacy influences the length of time parents and children use digital products;different occupations influence the length of time parents and children read together;economic income influences parents’ spending on children’s digital reading;different education levels influence parents’ acceptance of children’s digital reading;peer groups influence parents’ choice of children’s digital reading;and parents’ behaviors to promote reading practices influence children’s interest in reading. Then,a symptomatic reflection on this study was conducted to point out the problems of parents’ guidance of preschool children’s digital reading. Finally, optimal strategies for parents to guide their children’s digital reading are proposed, and the possibility of sustained interaction between preschoolers and digital reading is envisioned.Through this study,we will further provide parents with guidance strategies for children’s digital reading in order to build close and equal parent-child relationships through digital reading and promote family harmony and happiness. This study will also provide some empirical data and cases for the preschool children’s digital reading product market, where parents are the actual consumers. This study will help digital reading publishers to understand parents’ consumption motives in order to better explore the children’s digital reading market. |
