Objective:This study investigated the effect of parental psychological control on depression in junior high school students,and examined the mediating effect of self-concept clarity on parental psychological control and depression in junior high school students,as well as the moderating effect of mindfulness on parental psychological control and depression in junior high school students.Methods:Adopting the method of cluster sampling,1100 students from Grade 1 to Grade 3 in Shangcai County were selected as the research object.The Parental Psychological Control Scale,Self-concept Clarity Scale,Beck Depression Inventory,and Mindful Attention Scale were used to collect valid data.Using SPSS24.0 software,descriptive statistical analysis,correlation analysis,regression analysis,mediating effect test,moderating effect test and other methods were used to process and analyze data.Results:1.The depression scores of junior high school students did not show significant statistical difference in gender;There was a statistically significant difference in grade level,the higher the grade,the higher the depression score;2.There were significant differences in parental psychological control scores between the sexes,boys reported higher levels of parental psychological control;At grade level,parental psychological control level showed statistically significant difference,with the increase of grade,the level of parental psychological control reported by junior high school students increased.3.There was a significant negative correlation between parental psychological control and self-concept clarity;There was also a significant positive correlation between parental psychological control and depression;There was a significant negative correlation between parental psychological control and mindfulness;There was a significant positive correlation between mindfulness and self-concept clarity;There was a significant negative correlation between mindfulness and depression;There was a significant negative correlation between self-concept clarity and depression.4.Parental psychological control had a significant positive predictive effect on adolescent depression;Parental psychological control had a significant negative predictive effect on adolescents’ self-concept clarity;Self-concept clarity also had a significant negative predictive effect on adolescent depression.5.Self-concept clarity mediated the relationship between parental psychological control and depression.6.Mindfulness moderated the relationship between parental psychological control and self-concept clarity.Conclusion:The depression of junior high school students does not show significant difference in whether they are the only child or not and gender,which indicates that the only child or not and gender are not the reasons for the depression of junior high school students.However,grade affects the depression level of junior high school students.1.Both parental psychological control and self-concept clarity have significant predictive effects on depression.2.Self-concept clarity has a significant mediating effect between parental psychological control and depression.3.Mindfulness has a moderating effect on parental control and self-concept clarity.
