Einstein once said that imagination is more important than knowledge.Imagination has been an indispensable factor in the progress of human history.It is the cornerstone of social innovation and the source of scientific and technological revolution.With the development of artificial intelligence,we are increasingly in short supply of innovative talents,and imagination is an important component of innovation ability.Therefore,to improve the ability of innovation,we must start from the cultivation of imagination.Alfred,the famous English educator of the 20 th century.North Whitehead attached great importance to the cultivation of imagination,which was expounded in his famous philosophy of process and his works on education.This paper aims to comb out Whitehead’s imagination thoughts,combined with the new era background of artificial intelligence,and dig out the contemporary educational value contained in it,so as to promote the development of China’s education in the cultivation of imagination and accelerate the cultivation of innovative talents needed by society.This paper is mainly divided into six parts:The first part is the introduction.The reason,literature review,research significance,research content,research method and research innovation are expounded.Among them,the previous literature was analyzed and sorted out,and the data related to this study were sorted out.A new perspective was found on the basis of previous studies,which provided important support for the development of this study.The second part mainly elaborates the ideological origin of Whitehead’s imagination cultivation.Through the understanding of Whitehead’s life and learning experience,it is found that Whitehead attaches importance to the important factors of imagination cultivation thought,and makes a systematic combing of Whitehead’s process philosophy,and excavates the important theoretical value of imagination reflected in it,which has become an important ideological source of Whitehead’s imagination cultivation.The third part elaborates the theoretical basis of Whitehead’s imagination cultivation thought.Whitehead’s thought of imagination cultivation is closely related to his process philosophy,which provides a solid theoretical foundation for the cultivation of imagination.Through careful study of its related works,an important theoretical foundation is obtained.This paper mainly discusses the principle of process,the principle of correlation,the principle of ingestion and the principle of creativity.The fourth part focuses on Whitehead’s path of imagination cultivation,which is also the main part of this paper.Through carefully reading his educational works and digging deeply into his thoughts,three aspects are summarized.First,educational content focuses on the generation of imagination;Secondly,the educational process pays attention to the stimulation of imagination;Third,educational evaluation focuses on the cultivation of imagination.The fifth part is about the problems of imagination cultivation in the era of artificial intelligence.Standing in the new era of artificial intelligence,based on the research of Whitehead’s imagination thought,this paper examines the problems existing in the cultivation of imagination in today’s education,which is mainly discussed in four aspects: first,fragmented educational resources restrain the emergence of imagination;Second,excessive reliance on learning equipment limits the synthesis of imagination;Third,diversified teaching methods restrict the development of imagination;Fourthly,the lack of humanistic care of teachers hinders the creation of imagination.The sixth part is aimed at the problems existing in the cultivation of imagination in the era of artificial intelligence.In combination with Whitehead’s relevant discussions on the cultivation of imagination,specific suggestions are put forward,which are also elaborated in four aspects: first,changing the role orientation of teachers and improving their professional quality;Second,optimize the supply of educational resources and promote the integration of educational resources;Third,enrich classroom teaching mode and stimulate students’ interest in learning;Fourth,create an open learning situation and create a free learning atmosphere.
