Junior high school students in adolescence are transitioning from innocent childhood to mature youth.They are half-naive and half-mature.Because of the rapid physical and mental changes,they are sometimes full of conflicts.When they encounter learning difficulties and lack external support,they are not able to adjust themselves,which leads them to play truant.Some students are active on social edge after skipping classes.And some students choose to stay at home,shut themselves off,and refuse any help.How can social workers intervene in when junior high school students,who cut classes to stay at home,are involuntary client? This is the problem that the author wants to discuss.In the thesis,the students from a junior high school in Shenzhen,who skip classes to stay at home,are taken as the research object.Under the guidance of family system theory and social support theory,the author intervenes in both family and personal level of these students to solve the issue of escaping school.Through researches,the author comes out with the following results.Firstly,from intervention method,social workers cannot intervene directly in the student’s personal level when they are involuntary cases,who skip classes to stay at home.Instead,social workers can change the strategies,intervene in family level first,and improve students’ family relations by changing their parents’ educational concepts and parent-child communication methods.Then,social workers shall intervene in the individual level of these students,change their cognition of reading,and enhance their social support,especially peer support,to solve the problem of escaping school.Secondly,from theory application,social workers can effectively solve the problem of the truant students by using family system theory and social support theory.When using the family system theory to intervene in the family level of the students,social workers should look at family problems from the perspective of system theory.Instead of paying all attention to the problematic children themselves,social workers should also keep their eyes on the relationships and boundaries among family members.Once the communication among family members is changed,the family relationships can be improved.And the students will get family support and transform from an involuntary client to a voluntary client,which paves the way for social workers to intervene in students’ personal level.When applying social support theory to service intervention,social workers need to analyze the formal and informal social support resources of cases,and then guide and assist the case owners to explore,cultivate and enhance support resources.Moreover,social workers should also improve social support,enhance the students’ coping ability,and finally to solve the problem of truancy at home.Through the study,the author hopes to promote the intervention and verification of family system theory and social support theory in the problem of junior high school students playing truant at home.And the author also aims to make a difference by providing practical reference and enlightenment for social workers to intervene in the problem of junior high school truant students.
