The level of pre-service teachers’ AI literacy has a direct impact on the quality of future education,and the development of pre-service teachers’ AI literacy is of great significance to promote social development and talent cultivation.However,the current knowledge of pre-service teachers about AI and its educational applications is still very lacking,and their abilities are hardly adapted to the needs of talent training in the AI era.There is an increasingly urgent need to explore and improve pre-service teachers’ AI literacy,and the development of pre-service teachers’ AI literacy begins with a diagnosis of their literacy level.In order to provide planning tools for developing pre-service teachers’ AI literacy education and further promote the practice of their competency development.This study identifies the research topic of developing a self-assessment tool for pre-service teachers’ AI literacy.The study firstly summarizes the connotation of pre-service teachers’ AI literacy through relevant literature,and develops a model of pre-service teachers’ AI literacy structure.Then,based on the structural model,we analyze and compile a pool of AI literacy evaluation indicators and self-assessment tools for pre-service teachers.Again,through Delphi and empirical test,the accuracy,relevance,rationality and content validity of each index and item description are revised.Finally,the constructed self-assessment tool was applied to pre-service teachers nationwide to analyze the current level of pre-service teachers’ AI literacy and propose cultivation improvement strategies for the current situation.The AI literacy self-assessment tool developed and constructed in this study has 35 items,all of which are scored positively,and its scientific validity has been tested and corroborated with good differentiation,reliability and validity.After the test of this tool,it was found that the overall level of pre-service teachers’ AI literacy was not high and was at a moderate to low level,and the level of pre-service teachers’ AI literacy did not differ much between genders and disciplines,and the level of pre-service teachers in different grades differed significantly.Normal universities can use the pre-service teachers’ AI literacy self-assessment tool constructed in this study to diagnose the AI literacy level of pre-service teachers and develop corresponding educational training policies according to different literacy levels.Pre-service teachers groups can also analyze their own deficiencies against the evaluation results of the self-assessment tool to identify gaps and strengthen their learning.
