Wang Zhao is a famous educator in modern Tianjin.He has been actively committed to the popularization of modern Education in China,and his educational theory and practice have had an important impact on the development of education in modern Tianjin and the whole northern region.A systematic research on Wang Zhao’s educational thought will help fill the gap in Wang Zhao’s educational thought research,enrich the relevant research of modern Tianjin educators,and provide some enlightenment for the development of education today.This paper uses literature research method and history research method.The main body consists of three chapters.The first chapter summarizes Wang Zhao’s life and educational practice.The second chapter systematically introduces Wang Zhao’s educational thought,including The function of education,Universal Education,Normal Education,Female Education,Rural Construction.The third chapter evaluates Wang Zhao’s educational thought,which includes saving the nation through education,stress on the cultivation of all the people,Pay attention to the function of alphabetic writing.Its influence lies in,enriching the content of the ideological trend saving nation by education,promoting the popularization of education in the northern region at the beginning of the 20 th century,and boosting the development of modern reform of a writing system.Its limitations include exaggerating the social function of education,dividing people into different levels and ignoring female’s social values.Finally,it summarizes the enlightenment to contemporary education,first,education should cultivate the life power of the educated,second,education should pay attention to the popularization of common language,and third,education should catch up with the times and innovate boldly.
