| In ROSCAs of different countries and regions in the world,women have a higher participation rate.In China,women are still the main organizers and participants of ROSCAs.But at present,mainly oversea scholars have studied this phenomenon in underdeveloped countries and regions,while the structure of families presented in these studies is different from that of China.Taking C district in eastern Fujian as an example,wives are less likely to participate in ROSCAs in order to prevent their husbands from using up their wealth.Most local women are full-time housewives,and the labor income allocated in the family will not is more in line with the requirements of ROSCAs.Women mostly participate in ROSCAs in the name of the whole family.At the same time,since the Reform and Opening Up,driven by urbanization and market economy,China’s urban and rural landscapes have undergone earth-shaking changes,and the female-led association is the witness of this process.This article attempts to answer two questions of the causes and changes of the local female-led bidding associations in terms of structure and initiative from the perspective of social gender through a field survey of the bidding associations in District C of Eastern Fujian.In the early days of Reform and Opening Up,people’s need to improve their lives faced the problem of obtaining loans.The gender division of labor had made women more likely to dominate the bidding association,which is reflected in that men go out and women stay behind,that women control family finances,and the stereotypes that women are good at handling tedious tasks.In addition,women’s unique initiative has also contributed to a higher participation rate.This custom has continued to this day,but the willingness of women’s participation has been declining,and there has also been great differences between urban and rural association organizers.On the one hand,another drastic change in the social environment has made the traditional acquaintance society no longer exist,and the economic function of the bidding association has exceeded the social function and the bidding association continues to be marginalized.On the other hand,it is the result of consideration by women and their families in this background.Through the answers to these two questions,the bidding associations witnessed the process of women in C District gradually walking out of the family and towards society. |
