| With the increase in the demand for Chinese language learning in New Zealand,more and more primary and secondary schools offer Chinese classes.After investigation,it is found that language teaching overseas is not the most difficult part.Classroom atmosphere adjustment,classroom order keeping and Chinese teaching promotion,however,have become a big challenge for young Chinese teachers.Taking Chinese classroom management in New Zealand primary schools as a research object,the study combines the results from a questionnaire and the author’s practical experience,looking into the current practical problems Chinese teachers may encounter or may have encountered while managing a classroom.In-depth interviews with five local teachers in New Zealand were carried out to understand the local teachers’ views on classroom management.Besides,the author has sorted out and analyzed a series of cases collected and observed.By doing so,we expect to generalize a management strategy suitable for most primary school Chinese classrooms so as to advance Chinese teaching.The study found that New Zealand primary school Chinese classroom management can be improved in five aspects,including classroom environment,classroom rules,teaching action and classroom activities,Chinese teachers,Confucius Institute and Hanban.The study has come to an important solution that we can never emphasize too much on the construction of classroom physical and psychological environment,the establishment of classroom rules and consistent and resolute implementation,the rational use of classroom reward and punishment systems,and the creation of interactive teaching.In addition,the study also puts forward some suggestions for the training of Chinese teachers launched by Confucius Institute and Hanban,with a view of facilitating the awareness of Chinese teachers’ classroom management,improving classroom management and promoting overseas Chinese teaching. |
