The Circulation And Conversion Of The Capital Of Online Games Players

Games have been regarded as a communication medium since their birth,and online games born in the Internet era have undoubtedly inherited the media attributes of traditional games.Online games are an important social interaction space in modern society.They are virtual and abstract,and at the same time,they can see the power relations in the real society.In this field,complex structural relations are derived.In this paper,starting from the point of view of communication and media sociology,with modern network game players as the research object,through semistructured depth interview and network ethnographic research methods,based on Bourdieu’s capital theory,from the connotation of the capital,capital flows and capital transfer,empirical research for online gamers,observe the practice of online game players,reveal hidden capital online gamers behavior practice driving effect,in order to explain the capital to the influence of online game players and its internal mechanism.This paper analyzes the specific forms of economic capital,social capital and cultural capital owned by online game players in the network game field constructed by modern Internet media,and finds that the three kinds of capital all show different characteristics from Bourdieu’s traditional capital theory.Secondly,it analyzes the basis of capital flow among online game players,and derives three typical forms of capital flow,namely,competition,sharing and giving.Thirdly,it further analyzes the conversion possibility of different forms of capital owned by online game players,and constructs the conversion model of different forms of capital.Finally,the analysis of different capital connotation,flow and transformation of the network game player’s reality impact.The research found that online game players’ real social relations and virtual social relations compound each other,producing real emotional support for the players,making up for the shortcomings of the players in real life,and the players are gradually "immersed" in it.Online games,as a way of life,are integrated into the players’ real life.Through the analysis of the capital connotation,flow and transformation of online game players,hopes to provide diversified references for the development of online game industry and the guidance of player behavior.
