| The gender wage gap is one of the crucial problems in China’s income distribution reform.The importance of women in the labor market continues to grow,but gender wage gap still exists.Unequal gender wage distribution has received widespread attention in society,leading to in-depth research on the gender wage gap in academic circles.In order to promote gender equality and equity as well as realize equal pay for equal work,scholars continue to explore the factors that affect the gender wage gap.As a hidden human capital that affects individual utility preference,labor supply behavior and labor market performance,non-cognitive ability has an important impact on workers’ gender wage income.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the effect of non-cognitive abilities on the gender wage gap of workers.Based on the data from the Chinese Family Panel Studies,this paper uses a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods to analyze the impact of non-cognitive abilities on the gender wage gap of workers.First,the research status and deficiencies are clarified by sorting out the relevant literature,and the research questions are determined in combination with the realistic background.Secondly,carry out theoretical analysis and construct research hypotheses.Thirdly,the basic regression equation is constructed with reference to the Mincer wage equation,and the overall decomposition and quantile decomposition models are constructed with reference to the Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition method and the RIF decomposition method.Using STATA16.0 software to analyze the effect of non-cognitive ability on the gender wage of workers,the explanation strength and impact path of gender wage gap.Finally,the results of this paper are summarized,and specific countermeasures are given from the micro and macro levels.Research conclusions:(1)Non-cognitive ability has a significant promoting effect on workers’ wages in both the average wage level and each wage quantile level.(2)The decomposition of Oaxaca-Blinder and RIF shows that non-cognitive ability can explain part of the gender wage gap.(3)Through the marginal effect of education level and career choice,noncognitive ability indirectly affects workers’ wages,which is conducive to narrowing the gender wage gap.That is,compared with male workers,high non-cognitive ability is more conducive to the improvement of the marginal benefit of female education,and the degree of matching between people and jobs is high.Based on the above conclusions,this paper raises relevant countermeasures and suggestions:At the micro level,from the perspective of family and school education,training focuses on cultivating the non-cognitive abilities of individuals.At the macro level,we should increase investment in education,promote the reform of education system,pay attention to the cultivation of non-cognitive ability,improve enterprise management methods,give full play to the potential of individual non cognitive ability,change traditional ideas and establish a social and cultural atmosphere of gender equality.Promote the realization of gender equality by starting from the micro and macro levels.This study examines the relationship between non-cognitive abilities and the gender wage gap from a microscopic perspective.It not only broadens the research perspective,but also enriches relevant research results,and provides reference suggestions for improving gender discrimination in the labor market as well as resolving gender wage gaps.It provides a new perspective for understanding gender equity and improving policies related to employment and income reform. |
