As a positive motivational state, hope can maintain the mental health of high school students. Many existing researches have focused on using hope as a mediating or moderating variable to analyze the predictive effect of hope on depression, suicide intention, psychological adaptation and so on.Few researches have taken hope as a core variable and analyzed the internal mechanism of hope. This research takes high school students in psychological sensitive period as the research object,by which we will introduce the external negative stress events and internal rumination, discuss the prediction effect of the two on high school students’ hope, and analyze the moderating effect of gender in it.A total of 643 high school students were investigated with Adolescent Self-Rating Life Events Check(ASLEC),Ruminative Responses Scale(RRS)and The Trait Hope Scale(TTHS).The results are as follows:1.The negative stress events of high school students is in the lower-middle level, and the score of learning stress dimension is the highest.Among them, girls scored higher than boys, the senior three students scored higher than other grades students and rural students scored higher than urban students.2.The rumination of high school students is in the lower-middle level, and the reflection dimension score is the lowest.Among them, boys scored lower than girls, the senior three students scored higher than other grades students and urban students scored lower than rural students.3.The hope of high school students is in the higher-middle level, and the score of path dimension is lower than willingness motivation dimension.Among them, girls scored lower than boys, and the senior one students scored higher than other grades students. There is no statistically significant difference among the origin of students.4.Among high school students, the total score of negative stress events is negatively correlated with the total score of hope(r=﹣0.621,P<0.001)and positively correlated with the total score of rumination(r=0.568,P<0.001).The total score of rumination is negatively correlated with the total score of hope(r=﹣0.541,P<0.001).5.Rumination plays a mediating role in the relationship between negative stress events and hope, accounting for 23.6% of the total effect.Gender moderates the relationship between negative stress events and rumination(β=0.129,P<0.01).Negative stress events is more closely related to rumination in girls than in boys. Conclusion:Negative stress events can not only directly predict the level of hope, but also indirectly predict the level of hope through the mediating effect of rumination.By reducing the negative stress events of high school students, especially the negative stress events of girls, the level of rumination can be reduced, and then the level of hope of high school students can be improved.Based on this,Starting from the perception of relieving negative stress events, the popularization of rumination intervention research and the implementation of hope education, this research can formulate precise prevention and intervention measures for workers in schools, families and social fields,so as to enhance the hope of high school students and promote their mental health development.
