It is an indisputable fact that "empty nest youth" exists as a specific social group.In recent years,academic circles have paid more attention to this group,but less research has been done on "empty nest youth" from the field of journalism and communication.This paper discusses the use of new media for "empty-nest youth" and its impact on urban integration from the perspective of communication.Taking the "empty-nest youth" in Hangzhou as a case study,the survey finds that "empty-nest youths" in Hangzhou have high levels of education and age.The segment is clearly stratified;the occupation is more professional,and most of them live alone in the main urban area;the disposable income is not high,and the form of living is mainly shared rent;the willingness to choose a city is strong,and the empty-nest state lasts for a long time.This paper believes that the use of new media by urban "empty-nest youth" : First,the use of time for digital survival has become the norm,and the boundaries of work and life have overlapped,resulting in a standby state that cannot be offline;Second,the frequency of use of social new media They use the most frequently,but at the same time,this group has a strong awareness of network security,and pays more attention to their own privacy protection during online interaction;third,they pay attention to the practicability of new media in the choice of use,and have the strongest dependence on new media in life;fourth In terms of new media content consumption,the performance is more complicated.They are not only firm supporters of platform members,but also frequent consumers of virtual games,but they are indifferent to live broadcast online shopping,and they can save even more when it comes to virtual resources.New media has had an impact on the economic life,interpersonal communication,identity,and emotional expression of urban "empty-nest youth" : first,new media is embedded in the economic life of "empty-nest youth" to provide convenient services for urban integration;The integration of media into the interpersonal communication of "empty-nest youth" expands the circle of interpersonal communication,but also causes the dilution of the original circle of communication;third,the new media affects the identity of "empty-nest youth",and the new media environment weakens the identity of the city.The boundary of the concept of household registration has been diluted;fourth,as an important channel for emotional release,new media has relieved the urban loneliness and mental pressure of "empty-nest youth".This article discusses the integration of new media into cities for "empty-nest youth".One is to use smart city construction as a link to actively meet the diverse needs of "empty-nest youth";the other is to build a media-friendly environment to achieve "empty-nest youth" self-efficacy The third is to promote the transition from "empty-nest youth" to "nested youth" based on new media.
