| In recent years, due to the sudden outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in early2020,online education has continued to thrive and become an important way for universities, primary and secondary schools, and various educational institutions to carry out activities.Preschool children and their parents also need educational support from online platforms during this particular period of home isolation. This study innovatively focused on online education under the COVID-19 pandemic background,to understand the perceptions and needs of parents in this specific time and to provide references for front-line workers and researchers in preschool education to improve their implementation of teaching activities and parent work in COVID-19.Based on the theories related to online education and family education, the author selected 425 parents from Z kindergarten and 34 video materials they provided as research objects and adopted questionnaires, video analysis, and interviews as research method,to reveal the parental perceptions and actions about online education during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings are: most parents held the child-oriented educational concept;parents attached importance to the cultivation of children’s emotional and attitudinal goals but were more inclined to pursue the achievement of knowledge and skills goals;parents showed a strong need for cultural and subject knowledge provided by educational institutions and activities in sports and language fields offered by the kindergarten and teachers;parents showed a solid willingness to accompany their children and participate in online educational activities, but nearly half of the parents failed to do so.Instead, they let elder children attend the younger ones or let children learn independently;parents’ satisfaction with the kindergarten and teachers is higher than with educational institutions. The evaluation of online education is mainly from four aspects, implementers, content, form, and influence, with a focus on the interaction and effectiveness of online education and its impact on children’s vision health and habit formation.According to the relevant theory and the results, the author put forward the following suggestions:(1)Young children’s parents should adjust their mentality and update their educational concepts during the pandemic, spend more time in participating the online education and accompanying their children, support the initiatives by the kindergarten and trust teachers.(2)The kindergarten and teachers should adopt various opinions, pay attention to the needs of minority parental groups, make plans, and be fully prepared.(3)Educational institutions should pay attention to the latest policy guidelines, increase real-time interaction with actual people in online education activities, and adjust the content settings of activities according to laws, regulations, and actual conditions. |
