| The high school entrance examination for the general and vocational education diversion adheres to the principle of‘roughly equal’in Hunan province.i.e.50% of the students will enter into general high school and the rest will be distribute to the vocational high school according to performance in examination.Each region has a slight difference in specific implementation on the basis of meet the demand of diversion policy.This research investigated the situation of ‘general and vocational diversion’ in Q County in Hunan province in recent three years,analyzed12,668 junior high school graduates in the county,made comparison between rural graduates and urban graduates,so that we found the proportion of rural junior high school graduates being transferred to vocational high school was significantly higher than that of junior high school graduates from county,but vocational high school still faced with students shortage.It is the main method to distribute graduates to vocational or general high school according the test performance and comprehensive quality assessment.So we make comparison on test results between urban graduates and rural graduates,and found that the rural graduates were poor in English and natural science,but the regional gap among students in social science and sport is comparatively small.In order to find out reasons for the big gap between rural students and urban students on education diversion and test result,we conducted a questionnaire survey for the 1,045 ninth-grade students in Q county in May 2021.Logistic-regression analysis result shows that students’ personal initiative,learning strategies,family environment and school environment will make significant impact on academic performance.The rural students lack of confidence,motivation and lofty ideal in learning.Teachers do not stress the importance of learning methods,the students are weak in rational thinking,so rural students can hardly finish homework independently.The academic expectation from rural parents are comparatively low because of the female parent’s limited education background.The factors that influences the education diversion mainly include students’ individual cognitive ability,family environment and life ideal.Learning performance,learners specialty,parents’ expectation,family economic condition,academic ideal and career ideal all have significant influence on the diversion between vocational and general education for the junior high school graduates.Students with excellent learning performance prefer to choose general high school education,while those with weak learning performance would like to choose vocational high school.Students choosing top general high school generally do well in rational thinking.Students from poor families are likely to choose vocational education;Students choosing general education shows high academic aspirations and parents also expect more for higher education.Whether students choose general high schools or vocational high schools,all of them would like to go to college for higher education in the future and make contributions to the modernization of urban and rural development.Based on the above research results and policy requirements for rural education revitalization,the author come up with the following measures to solve the ‘general and vocational education diversion’ problem in high school:Firstly,it is necessary to improve the learning performance for students in rural middle school in order to increase the opportunities for them to enter into the general high schools.Secondly,it will be nice to encourage students to choose the right school according to their personal specialty with the purpose of diversifying the talent structure.Thirdly,it is suggested that vocational high schools carry out flexible flexible training system to meet the demand of students from poor families.Fourthly,it will be helpful to let parents establish the awareness of correct and rational view towards vocational education.Fifthly,it will be nice to promote vocational high school provide opportunities for further education so that to help students realize their academic ideals.Finally,it will be necessary to train high-level rural technician in the way of directional employment to help students realize their career dreams.Since the research is based on a case in Q county,the conclusion has regional limitations and only for your reference. |
