In order to achieve the policy goal of roughly equal ratio between general high school education and secondary vocational education,all localities have adopted methods such as breaking down the enrollment plan of ordinary high schools and secondary vocational schools step by step,delineating the minimum score line for admission to ordinary high schools,abolishing non-registered students,strengthening the management of high school status,and strengthening supervision to implement the separation of general education and vocational education after junior high school students.These more compulsory methods have caused widespread anxiety in the society for the middle school entrance examination,and even misinterpreted the relevant expression in the newly revised Vocational Education Law of the People’s Republic of China in 2022 as "abolish the separation of general high school education and secondary vocational education" under the guidance of the media.Therefore,this study focuses on the diversion of general education and vocational education after graduation of junior high school students in China,and aims to analyze the diversion of general education and vocational education after graduation of junior high school students in China from the perspective of academic theory and the actual practical situation,and put forward suggestions for improvement.This study sorted out the relevant literature on the diversion of general education and vocational education after junior high school students in China,defined the key concepts such as "the proportion of general high school and secondary vocational education is roughly the same",and found that the diversion of general education and vocational education after graduation of junior high school students in China can be divided into three stages: free diversion,induced diversion and compulsory diversion under the background of roughly equivalent ratio of general high school education and secondary vocational education.Taking Y City,Shanxi Province as an example,this study investigated the implementation status of policies related to the diversion of general education and vocational education after graduation for junior high school students in Y City,Shanxi Province,through text analysis and interview method.And understood the views and intentions of junior high school graduates on the diversion of general education and vocational education through questionnaire surveys,and understood parents’ views on the diversion of general education and vocational education through interviews with parents of junior high school students.Research has found that there are several problems with the separation of general education and vocational education among junior high school students in Y City,Shanxi Province after graduation: the policy tendency of compulsory separation has not yet achieved a general equivalence between general high school education and secondary vocational education;The concept of valuing general high school education over secondary vocational education is very common;The separation of general education and vocational education,characterized by the survival of the fittest,has exacerbated educational anxiety;The disadvantages of secondary vocational education are prominent,and its appeal to middle school students is weak.This study discusses whether the general high school education and secondary vocational education are divided after junior high school students graduate,the proportion of the general high school education and secondary vocational education after junior high school students graduate,and the way of the division.Through analysis,this study believes that the existence of the diversion of general high school education and secondary vocational education after graduation of junior high school students is still of great significance,and blind cancellation is unrealistic and irregular,but the way and proportion of the diversion of general high school education and secondary vocational education after graduation of junior high school students should be carefully considered.As for the proportion of junior high school students who transfer to regular senior high school education and secondary vocational education after graduation,it is necessary to determine scientifically and reasonably the proportion of junior high school students who receive regular senior high school education and secondary vocational education after graduation on the basis of a correct understanding of the concept that the proportion of regular senior high school education and secondary vocational education should be roughly equal in accordance with social needs,educational development,the will of the people and international trends.At present,there is a compulsory meaning in the diversion of general high school education and secondary vocational education after junior high school students graduate,which impairs students’ freedom of educational choice.It is necessary to fully protect the freedom of education choice of students in senior high school within a certain limit,so as to realize the transformation from compulsory distribution to reasonable distribution.Based on this,this study puts forward suggestions to further promote the rational development of general education and vocational education diversion after junior high school students: Change the thinking,the general job diversion of junior high school students after graduation should be changed from compulsory diversion to reasonable diversion;Deepen reform and improve the reform of the enrollment and admission mechanism of high school education;Provide conditions for the improvement of the modern vocational education system;Change concepts and establish the concept of equal status between general education and vocational education.
