The “Hotel Service Etiquette” course is a basic course for tourism majors in secondary vocational schools.It has a great effect on cultivating professional ability and shaping professional quality of secondary vocational students.However,the current situation that students have low interest and motivation in learning has affected the teaching outcome and the quality of personnel training for tourism majors.Therefore,how to use relevant theories to enhance students’ learning motivation is an important issue for secondary vocational teachers to consider.ARCS motivation model theory mainly focuses on stimulating and maintaining motivation.It is feasible to use this theory to solve the problem of learning motivation.At present,the theory is widely used in subject teaching,computer and other professional teaching.In the field of tourism specialty,especially in the secondary vocational education tourism specialty teaching research has a lot of space.This paper is mainly based on the research of many scholars,taking the “Hotel Service Etiquette”course as an example,introducing the ARCS motivation model theory into the teaching of secondary vocational tourism majors,so as to increase motivation to learn and explore methods to enhance students’ learning enthusiasm.To know the current learning motivation for the course of “Hotel Service Etiquette”,this paper made a survey of 154 secondary vocational students.The survey found that there is a lack of continuous attention of students;lack of contact between teaching content and students;students lack confidence;low internal satisfaction in learning.According to the problems,combined with ARCS motivation model theory and curriculum practice,this paper puts forward specific teaching strategies based on the motivation model: increasing students’ continuous attention to the curriculum;strengthen the connection between curriculum and students;enhance students’ confidence;improve students’ satisfaction with the course.On the basis of theoretical elaboration,this paper applies the ARCS motivation model theory to teaching experiment to test its result.After some months of teaching,the experiment shows that students’ learning motivation level has a great improvement than that before the experiment.Therefore,using ARCS motivation model theory to stimulate students’ learning motivation is effective,and its teaching effect can be promoted in other courses.
