With the innovation of social governance,the research on the capacity building and quality of life of the mentally handicapped has gradually been paid more and more attention with the change of welfare concept.The professional methods and professional advantages of social work play an increasingly prominent role in social governance,so they are gradually being used to improve services for people with mental disabilities.The purpose of this research is to intervene social work in the construction of social skills of mentally handicapped children to promote an equal social environment for everyone,to improve society’s tolerance for mentally handicapped people,and to improve the practical applicability of social work’s participation in social governance.This study uses the ecosystem theory to analyze the "social difficulties" and "difficulty to socialize" of children with mental disabilities from three levels.At the same time,using social learning theory,it is found that social work intervention can improve the social skills construction of mentally handicapped children,strengthen community integration,and promote social learning of mentally handicapped children.The study selected 30 mentally handicapped children from the T institution as the research objects,and used professional methods of social work to promote the improvement of the social skills of mentally handicapped children.During the research process,the author used the paired sample t test to compare the intervention results before and after,and found that the P values were all <0.05,thus confirming that the effect of social work intervention was significant.The research proves and the experience gained is mainly in two aspects.On the one hand,social workers can use group activities and community activities as carriers to cultivate students’ social cognition and connect individuals with society,so as to truly promote students’ participation in society and improve their social skills.On the other hand,in the process of practice,it analyzes the difficulties faced by social work intervention in the construction of social skills of children with mental disabilities,and provides practical reference and suggestions for social work intervention in the construction of social skills of children with mental disabilities.
