A questionnaire survey was conducted among 658 junior high school students in a middle school in Pingshan County,Hebei Province using the cluster sampling method to explore the relationship between peer relationship and idol worship,as well as the mechanism of self-esteem and social support in the relationship between the two and the differences in demographic variables.Using the "Peer Relationship Scale","Idol Worship Questionnaire","Self-Esteem Scale" and "Perceived Social Support Scale",the research results are as follows:(1)The peer relationship in middle school is normal and in the middle level;the idol worship in junior high school is universal to some extent,and generally has a rational tendency;self-esteem is higher in junior high school;the level of social support in secondary schools is very good and high;(2)In junior high school,peer acceptance,self-esteem,social support and reason worship are positively correlated to a large extent;To a large extent,the fear of peers and the inferiority of junior high school students are negatively correlated with rational worship and positively correlated with irrational worship;(3)Self-esteem played a completely mediating role in the relationship between peer relationship and idolatry,while social support moderated the relationship between peer relationship and idolatry,it regulates the second half of the mediating effect,that is,it plays a moderating role between self-esteem and idolatry;(4)There are significant differences in grade,origin and class leadership among junior middle school students.There are significant differences in gender,grade and the existence of idols.There was no significant difference between self-esteem and gender and grade.There are significant differences in gender,place of origin and gender in social support;This study reveals the relationship between peer relationship and idol worship and its mechanism,and puts forward suggestions to guide middle school students to reduce the negative impact of peer relationship on idol worship and promote the development of students’ mental health better.
