Based on the double pressure of the global change of basic education development and the increasingly tight land resources in China’s cities, elementary school teaching space can no longer meet the development of diversified teaching activities by means of rough increments. Therefore, there is a sharp contradiction between the two.The concept of student-centeredness has become the mainstream of education today.Inquiry-based teaching activities are its main teaching method, which advocates respecting students’ individual development, respecting their different beginning forms of learning, and cultivating students’ innovative thinking and ability by encouraging them to conduct independent and collaborative inquiry. At the same time,China’s urban land use policy requires adherence to intensive development. To sum up,it is imperative to explore the design strategies for the intensification of teaching space in elementary school. In the face of the constantly changing forms of teaching activities and the impossibility of large-scale expansion of elementary school teaching space, the intensive design strategy is not only necessary but also feasible. The strategy of intensification of teaching space refers to the efficient integration and reorganization of aging, duplicated and scattered functional spaces within a limited space, optimizing the layout of the spatial structure and moving up the spatial hierarchy.Enhance the utilization rate of the original stock space, and change from expanding incremental development to using the stock for efficient integration development. We create a diversified and dynamic humanistic environment with an intensive space of moderate scale, compact space and functional aggregation. This will meet the development of student-centered teaching and learning. This paper is divided into five main chapters. The first chapter is an introductory section, which explains the basic content related to the selected topic. The second chapter analyzes the development of educational philosophy and teaching space. The analysis of the problem is mainly based on the concept of student-centered education and the form of its teaching space. The third chapter section is about the identification of the idea of intensification of teaching space, mainly examining the content related to the idea of space intensification.Chapter 4 is the strategy of student-centered teaching space intensification, which is mainly constructed from the perspective of overall spatial layout, unit classroom form and teaching resource distribution. The fifth chapter is about the design practice and spatial pattern discussion, which is an application and in-depth analysis of the teaching space intensification strategy through design practice. This study focuses on the prevalent problems of internal teaching space in existing elementary school, and uses the method of intensification to investigate in depth and conclude a more feasible space design strategy to meet the needs of student-centered teaching activities in order to achieve sustainable development. It is hoped that this study will have some meaningful reference value for the development of teaching spaces in elementary school.
