Linen fabric is widely used in home and industrial textiles due to its excellent moisture absorption and antibacterial properties. However, due to the low utilization rate of ink,the color of the printed fabric is light and dull after inkjet printing with reactive dyes. Therefore, the linen fabric needs to be pretreated to improve the inkjet printing effect. In this study, the surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS)–sodium alginate(SA)and two kinds of cellulose ethers[hydroxyethyl cellulose(HEC)and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose(HPMC)]were used for the pretreatment of linen fabric inkjet printing. The pretreatment effect was evaluated by the spreading of micro upgraded ink droplets on the fabric surface and the color performance of the inkjet printing color block.By characterizing physical and chemical properties, the influence mechanism of different pretreatment agents on the inkjet printing effect of linen fabric was analyzed. The research results showed that compared with SA pretreated linen fabric, the spreading area of the micro upgraded ink droplets on SDS-SApretreated fabric has been reduced.Meanwhile, the K/S values of inkjet-printed cyan, magenta, yellow and black block were increased by 2.7,3.4,1.9 and 1.3 respectively. The fixation and penetration rates were slightly increased and decreased. At the same time, the appropriate concentrations of SA,SDS,urea and Na2CO3in the pretreatment agent were2%,3%,6%and 1%,respectively,the steaming time was 4 min.The addition of SDS increased the roughness of the fabric surface structure, enhanced the hydrophilicity and surface Zeta potential of the fabric, thus increased the color depth of printed color block, but the fineness of printed lines was slightly reduced.Using non-ionic cellulose ether HEC as the pretreatment agent to pretreated linen fabric.Compared with SA pretreated linen fabric, the spread area of the micro-upgraded ink droplets on the HEC pretreated fabric was reduced by 30.9 mm2.The K/S values of the inkjet-printed cyan, magenta, yellow and black block were increased by 3.5,5.1,5.6 and 5.4,the line width was reduced by 13,72,53 and 11?m,and the fixation rate was increased by 16%,6.9%,9.7%and 12.6%,respectively.The formula of prtreatment agent was:HEC 2%,urea10%,Na2CO3 1%,and the steaming time of printed fabric was 10 min.Because of the HEC pretreatment agent formed a more uniform film on the surface of the fabric, which improved the hydrophobicity of the fabric, the color depth, vividness and fineness of the printed pattern were significantly improved compared to the SA treated fabric. This shows that improving the hydrophobicity of linen fabric can reduce the spreading of ink drops on the surface of the fabric, thereby improving the inkjet printing effect. In addition, the hydrophobicity of linen fabric can be significantly improved by using HPMC as a pretreatment agent. When the composition of the treatment agent is HPMC2%,urea 10%,and Na2CO3 1%,the K/S value of the color block on the printed fabric was the highest, and compared with SA pretreated fabric, the K/S value of the cyan, magenta, yellow and black color block increased by 6.1,5.7,5.8 and 7.9,respectively.The width of the printed lines decreased by 23?m,83?m,75?m and 21?m,respectively.The printed pattern shown an excellent effect in color depth, brightness and fineness. This study proved that the application of surfactant and nonionic cellulose ether in the pretreatment of linen fabric inkjet printing can improve the printing effect, and provide reference for the industrial production of linen fabric inkjet printing pretreatment.
