In today's world,Lean Production Management has become a common trend in project management.It has a diverse body of knowledge and tools,but they mainly focus on reducing waste and improving efficiency.Lean Construction is the application of Lean Production Management concepts in construction projects,improving quality and efficiency through the use of Lean Management tools.As the market environment becomes ever-increasingly competitive,Lean Construction can provide an effective way for corporations to seek change and innovate.Many real-life applications suggest that the implementation of Lean Construction by construction companies,through continuous improvement processes,can effectively cut cost,optimize construction timeline,improve safety and quality,and enhance project profitability by boosting value creation.Nuclear power projects are large-scale industrial construction projects,most notably the installation of nuclear reactors that involves many disciplines.Those projects have complex management interfaces,large teams of construction workers,compressed timelines,immense technical difficulties,stringent safety and quality requirements,and last but not the least,nuclear safety concerns.Traditional project management cannot easily meet the needs of nuclear power project management.Moreover,there has not been significant advancement in the construction models and technology in nuclear construction,and the construction efficiency has been consistently lower compared to other civilian projects,with lots of waste on construction sites.The implementation of Lean Construction in nuclear power construction projects can create more value,meet customer needs,enhance the core competitiveness of corporations,and promote high quality development of nuclear power construction.This paper studies the application of Lean Construction in nuclear power projects at Company E.In the paper,the author researches Lean Construction related bodies of knowledge,introduces trends in nuclear power and characteristics of nuclear power construction projects,and analyzes current condition of project management and existing problems at Company E.This paper focuses on Company E's application of Lean Construction in nuclear power projects.Many facets of the implementation are analyzed and researched in detail,including 5S management at construction sites,“3 Evolve” Lean Construction models for nuclear power project installation,project schedule control using a “Pull-based System”,enhancing construction efficiency by boosting technological innovations,and Top 10 nuclear power projects risk management measures and Lean Cost Management.Through this practical implementation of Lean Construction in nuclear power projects,the paper summarizes how Lean Production can be used in nuclear power projects,and proves the application can reduce waste,enhance safety and quality,lower cost and shorten project timeline.In the end,this paper arrives at conclusions based on analyzing theories and practical examples and points out future research directions for Lean Construction in nuclear power construction projects.
