Road rage is becoming an important factor in triggering traffic accidents, and news reports of road rage induced accidents are increasing year by year. The objectives of this study is to investigate the current status of driver road rage,to examine the external environmental factors and subject trait factors that trigger road rage, and the effects of these two components on road rage.Study1: Development of the Road Rage Emotion-Behavior Elicitation Questionnaire and Driver Control Point Questionnaire. The following results were obtained from the pretest and formal administration: The Road Rage Emotion-Behavior Elicitation Questionnaire consists of 14 questions, including three dimensions of traffic disorder, risky behavior, and rude behavior. The Driver Control Point Questionnaire consists of 12 questions, including three dimensions: self, other drivers, and environment. The questionnaire has good reliability and can be used as a formal measurement tool.Study 2: A survey of 936 drivers using a questionnaire was conducted to(1)understand the current status of road rage among drivers and(2)explore the external factors that contribute to road rage and the role of subject traits in influencing it.Results:(1)Men score significantly higher than women on road rage behavior;Drivers with higher education scored significantly higher on road rage than drivers with other education levels;Professional drivers score significantly higher on road rage behavior than non-professional drivers;Driver's age and driving experience were both significantly and negatively associated with road rage emotions and behaviors;(2)Drivers' road rage emotions and behaviors differed significantly in all three scenarios, with significantly higher scores for road rage emotions and behaviors under rude behavior than in the other two scenarios;(3)Trait anger, feeling seeking and other control points can significantly predict the degree of road anger of drivers, and have a positive predictive effect. The higher the score, the higher the degree of road anger.Among them, trait anger has the most significant impact on road rage.Conclusions:(1)The Road Rage Emotion-Behavior Elicitation Questionnaire and Driver Control Point Questionnaire have good overall reliability and can be used as formal measurement instruments;(2)The driver's gender, age, driving experience, education and occupation are all related to his or her road rage;(3)In the external environment, drivers are most likely to feel angry at others' rude driving behaviors, such as uncivilized gestures and verbal abuse made by others.Among them, they are most angry about the sudden appearance of non-motorized vehicles or pedestrians in the roadway;(4)Individuals who are prone to high levels of road rage can be identified through sensory seeking, trait anger, and other sources of control.Road rage reduction can be achieved through psychological conditioning of these drivers, with the greatest focus on drivers with trait anger.
