"Basic Mechanical Materials Science" (excerpt) Translation Practice Report

In today's society,the demand for Japanese talents is increasing,and the job market is pursuing more complex Japanese talents.Therefore,foreign language talents with other professional knowledge can better cope with the solid Japanese language.Today's employment trend.Generally speaking,most people learn the basic knowledge of other majors through textbooks of related majors.Therefore,translating textbooks of other majors can provide good learning opportunities for foreign language learners learning the basic knowledge of the major.In this translation practice,the author chose Inamori Kazuo's Basic Mechanical Material Science(chapterl-4)as the translation practice text.This book belongs to the basic course textbook of mechanical specialty,and there are few pre-disciplines,which can reduce the burden of mastering relevant professional knowledge in advance.The content mentioned in the book is not only related to the field of machinery,but also applicable to all aspects of engineering practice,which can provide beginners with a chanceto learn relevant knowledge systematically.This practice report is divided into four parts,namely introduction,pre-translation preparation,case analysis,and conclusion.The introduction relates to the background,topic and significance of the topic.Pre-translation preparation includes pre-translation preparation,text analysis and translation strategies.In the case analysis,the detailed analysis is carried out from the vocabulary level and the sentence level,and finally the translation method used is summarized.In this translation practice,readers are compared with the original text and the translation as the purpose of translation,and Newmark's semantic translation is adopted as the translation strategy as a whole.For the translation that may appear to be unsmooth or even ambiguous according to the requirements of semantic translation In some cases,the author adopts Newmark's communicative translation to deal with it,and adds comments in the places where the gap between the original text and the translation is large and conveys more important information,so as to avoid the reader's confusion when comparing readings.At the vocabulary level and sentence level,by comparing the effects of semantic translation and communicative translation on non-professional terms,complex long sentences and ambiguous sentences,combined with the characteristics of the translation practice text and the translation purpose of bilingual comparison reading,the author is explained.Reason for choosing communicative translation instead of semantic translation at the point of the problem.
