Information Loss, Mistranslation And Pause Phenomenon Analysis And Solution Strategies

This report is an English-Chinese simultaneous simulation interpretation report.Selected material is the 2016 GTC Taiwan Conference,2016 Taiwan GPU Technology Conference,hosted by NVIDIA,bringing together industry professionals to share scientific and technological achievements.The speaker of the conference is Jensen Huang.Before the simultaneous interpretation,translator made a simple preparation including the company NVIDIA and its products,and made a series of predictions about problems that the simulation practice report would appear.After the simulation,the translator listened the recording carefully to find out the problems and tried to give solutions.The report is composed of five parts: task description,task process,case analysis,problem solving and practice summary.During the English-Chinese simultaneous interpretation,the short-term memory burden,insufficient energy distribution,and comprehension obstacles have affected the translation,presenting in the mistranslation of too many prepositional phrases,the loss of information due to numbers,excessive clause information,non-fluent pauses,and lack of understanding of professional terms.In response to the problems,the translator finally adopts three strategies: prediction,waiting and sentence splitting.After the simultaneous simulation interpretation task is completed,the translator makes a summary hoping to bring some help and inspiration for future interpretation practice.
