Chinese is a typical classifier highlighting language and classifier do not form an independent part of speech in English grammar, but both languages have language constructions to express partitive concepts."Yi+classifier+N"and"a(n)+N1+of+N2"are the noun partitive construction frequently used in Chinese and English respectively. On this basis, this paper makes a deeper study of the linguistic phenomena related to these two constructions through corpus analysis. The research focuses on the following aspects:comparative study of internal structure, grammaticalization degree of chinese classifiers and"N1",semantic evolution, formation mechanism, formation motivation and pragmatic functions. This paper holds that there is an obvious correspondence between the internal structure of"Yi+classifier+N"and"a(n)+N1+of+N2",and that the grammaticalization degree of Chinese classifier is higher than that of English classifier"N1".The formation of these two constructions is influenced by metaphor and metonymy mechanism, boundary mechanism, specific cognitive motivation, context motivation and cultural motivation. In terms of pragmatic function, there are similarities and differences in measurement, rhetoric, emotional expression and stylistic expression.Through the multi angle investigation, this paper can understand the similarities and differences between Chinese and English in the partitive construction, guide and standardize the use of structure, and provide some references for TCFL and bilingual learners.
