The Yan'an period is special but important in Chinese history, during which, the national united front of the Chinese Communist Party was established;the revolutionary forces and political leadership and influence continued to enhance, thus the cause of revolution gradually moved towards the dawn of victory. The Chinese Communist Party has not only made significant developments in politics, economy, and military affairs, but also a new democratic culture has been developed and established in spite of the fact that international situation is turbulent, and the domestic KMT completely blocked and used false propaganda tactics to slander the image of the the Chinese Communist Party and distort the Chinese Communist Party's anti-Japanese role.Because of that, the Chinese Communist Party faces great difficulties and challenges in its external communication. In order to break the Kuomintang blockade and smash the Kuomintang's false propaganda,Mao Tse-tung actively sought opportunities for external communication. With the help of foreign reporters acting as a window,he opened channels for external communication, explaining to the foreign reporters our party's political policy, carefully telling the story of Chinese revolution, and making his voice heard by the world thanks to the foreign reporters. The Chinese Communist Party has shaped his own image and won the support and help from the international and domestic communities. The analysis and summary of Mao Tse-tung's superb discourse strategies have enlightenment and reference for our party or government to tell Chinese stories well to the world and to shape a good image of a big country and party.Based on this, the author combined the historical background and historical events of the Yan'an period, and used research methods such as content analysis, word frequency analysis, and literature analysis to deeply analyze Mao Tse-tung's discourse strategies in telling foreign journalists the story of Chinese revolution. This article is mainly divided into five parts:Chapter 1 is an introduction to the research origin, the significance, and the current status of research on Mao Tse-tung's external communication during the Yan'an period and the interaction between Mao Tse-tung and foreign journalists during the Yan'an period.Definition of Yan'an period, foreign journalists, discourse strategies, and according to historical documents, the author sorted out the names, visiting times, visiting identities, and representative works of 31 journalists who visited the border area and interviewed Mao Tse-tung during the Yanan period. The research ideas, the research methods, the innovations and deficiencies.Chapter 2 presents the backgrounds of Mao Tse-tung telling the story of Chinese revolution to foreign journalists during the Yan'an period are the global crisis of the international political and economy and the internal contradiction between the Kuomintang and Communist Party, these reasons caused Mao Tse-tung wanted to break the blockade and to speak to the world urgently. In addition, due to the journalists'vocational specificity and the special foreign journalists' identity, foreign journalists have become an extremely important window for Mao Tse-tung to speak out and spread abroad. In Chapter 3,firstly the author sorted out 31 foreign journalists based on historical documents, and then selected them based on detailed conversation recording historical documents, and sorted out the time and the contents of 14 interviews between 16 foreign journalists and Mao Tse-tung.Secondly,let all texts of Mao Tse-tung answered in these 14 interviews put into the Tuyue word frequency analysis tool for analysis and getting 150 high-frequency hot words. And then deleted non-meaning hot words and obtained and divided the remaining into four categories——Event type, character and organization type, international and area type, policy and system type, and show and explain the results.Combining with the results of word frequency analysis, from the democracy of the Chinese Communist Party, the relationship between the Kuomintang and the Chinese Communist Party with the consensus of national liberation, the attitude of the Chinese Communist Party to the war of resistance, the extensively combined the international forces' common anti-Japanese principles of the Chinese Communist Party in four aspects to summarize and elaborate the story of the Chinese revolution told by Mao Tse-tung to foreign journalists.Chapter 4 is based on the theory of discourse rhetoric, combined with the analysis of the Chinese revolutionary stories told by Mao Tse-tung to foreign journalists, and summarizes Mao Tse-tung's discourse strategies—constructing sympathetic spaces, breaking down rumors with facts, and using metaphorical rhetoric actively—and Mao Tse-tung's external image construction.Chapter 5 summarizes the influence of Mao Tse-tung on telling the story of the Chinese revolution to the world from four aspects:reshaping the image of the border area, reshaping the image of the Chinese revolution, winning assistance from the international communities, and winning the right to speak internationally. The final conclusion points out that Chinese current and future destiny has been fully integrated into the world history, and dialogue and communication between Chinese and Western civilizations have become inevitable. With the rise of Chinese international status, various criticisms, censures and slanders have emerged, which pushing China to the vortex center of international public opinion and telling the Chinese story to the world well is still a topic of our times.Summarizing and revealing Mao Tse-tung's superb discourse strategies and skillful communication skills can be used as a reference for our party or government to tell Chinese story well and shape a good image.
