Shanyang Immigration And Regional Cultural Changes In Qing Dynasty

Located in the south-central Shangluo City,Shaanxi Province,Shanyang County,lying next to Hubei Province,is known as the hub of Qin and Chu mixed with northern heroic and southern gracious styles.In the troubled late Ming and early Qing dynasties,residents in Shanyang decreased dramatically.During the region of Qianlong Emperor,large-scale immigrants moved to Shanyang,leading to profound changes in population and local cultural patterns.Based on a diachronic study of the process of Shanyang immigrants in the Qing Dynasty,this thesis reflects the evolution of the whole regional history from the county micro perspective;meanwhile,it explores the impact of immigrants on cultural development through a synchronic research on the regional culture of Shanyang;finally,it discusses immigrants' cultural response during social adaptation and the new group identity.Rest on the basis of the discussion about the migration process and the restoration of their distribution,this thesis concentrates on the cultural change and identity reconstruction of regional society.In chapter one,this thesis approaches the processes and reasons of two population changes and constructs the historical process of demographic changes in Shanyang by a diachronic study of the migration of Shanyang in the Ming and Qing dynasties.Then,backed up by a further discussion on the source,it analyzes the reasons why immigrants move to Shanyang according to the "push-pull theory".In chapter two,focusing on social psychology and geography,the thesis considers the influence of topography,traffic,cultural psychology,and economic factors on the distribution of immigrants from distribution of Shanyang immigrants in two dimensions:horizontal distribution and vertical difference.In chapter three,the thesis probes into the specific influence of Shanyang immigrants on the local regional cultural changes in the Qing Dynasty mainly from the five aspects,including crop planting,architectural style,economic structure,social life and dialect vocabulary.Through the comparative reasoning,it analyzes the similarity and correlation between Shanyang regional culture and the immigrant one,expounding the contribution of the immigrant culture to enriching Shanyang culture,as well as the mutual influence.In chapter four,the thesis mainly studies the cultural adaptation and group identity of Shanyang immigrants.Starting with the cultural adaptation of immigrants,it explains the settlement,adaptation,and assimilation of immigrants in cultural integration from three aspects:custom legend,guildhall construction,and geomantic omen.On this basis,it figures out the changes in immigrants' group identity and the formation process of dual integration in Shanyang.Through a diachronic discussion on the process of Shanyang immigrants and the cultural adaptation,this thesis spells out the distribution mode of immigrants and their identity changes and reveals the distribution rule and the formation reason of Shanyang regional cultural pattern,studying the crucial role of social culture in migration and integration of immigrants.
