Kawabata,a representative Japanese writer of the new sense school and also a famous novelist. He has won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1968,becoming the first writer in Japan and the second in Asia to receive this award.Kawabata has a keen artistic sensation different from ordinary people, which comes from his unique growth experience and the long-term influence of traditional Japanese culture.Over time,he was particularly sensitive to the subtle changes in natural colors and could be accurately described in artistic language.Over his more than half-century creative career,Kawabata, who pursues the traditional beauty of Japan, has realized the beauty of nature, human feelings, and the beauty of traditional culture in colors. And then giving a profound symbolic meaning for color, also describing his unique pursuit of beauty and his unique perception of life with a different color perception. Therefore, color becomes a new way to study Kawabata's literature gradually today.Based on previous studies, this thesis takes color as the research object, and analyzes the four colors of green, black, white, and red in the three texts of Kawabata Snow Country,Ancient Capital and Thousand Cranes. With the use of each color expression technique to realize the symbolic meaning behind the color, deeply explore the causes and related aesthetic consciousness of Kawabata's color world performance, and strive to achieve a systematic, comprehensive and thorough analysis and discussion. For the reason that, this thesis mainly discusses from four aspects:The first chapter begins with the theme of vitality under the symbol of green.Under the profound influence of "animism","pantheism","the union of heaven and human",the Japanese gradually began to get close to,love, worship and respect the nature. The inheritance of this unique view of nature in Japan has not only effected traditional Japanese culture and Japanese literature, but also deeply influenced Kawabata's literary creation.Green,as one of Kawabata Yasunari's favorite colors, appears most frequently in "Ancient Capitals",resembling the vigorous natural vitality and strong Japanese nation.Especially as the green of national vitality,it reflects Kawabata Yasunari's unique color perception. The lingering green rhymes covered by the tall and tough Beishan cedars enshrine Kawabata Yasunari's deep meaning to the defeated nation and encourage the people to regain their confidence.Green is the vitality of life in Kawabata Kawabata's pen,and it is the hope of the nation's immortality. The second chapter starts with three kinds of color expression methods:"monochrome infection","sensory stimulation of black and white contrast",and"color alienation",It combines Kawabata's personal experience with the influence of traditional color culture to explore its symbolic meaning in Kawabata Literature and Japanese Culture.Black is an important color in Kawabata literature. It has a long history in Japanese traditional color aesthetics. The ancient Japanese used black as a dark color to associate with evil and fearful things, and regarded it as a negative color. On the one hand,Kawabata, who was deeply influenced by traditional culture, inherited the traditional symbolism of black, connected it with ugliness, sadness and death to express his inner feelings; On the other hand, based on the impact of his personal growth experience, the successive deaths of his family exposed him to the icy death and haze early Therefore, his memory of black is extremely deep sensitive,so that the black complex deeply affected his life. Therefore,a large number of black descriptions appear in both Snow Country and Thousand Cranes. The author projects black in the characters and works, describing his ugliness and sadness. The third chapter cuts through Kawabata's literature on the elegant white world.Via the character images and environment descriptions in Kawabata literature, the deep symbolic meaning of white is analyzed, and combined with the development and influence of Zen in Japan,to further explore the Japanese traditional aesthetic taste of white.White has been admired and loved by people since ancient times, especially close to colorless white. It is the cleanest color in the hearts of Japanese people. The Japanese people's love for white has been better confirmed in Kawabata literature. The pure snow country is his ideal country. The nearly transparent leaves are his deep thoughts on life and death.Yumiko Inamura and Miss Fumiko are his inner pursuit and longing for pure female beauty...The influence of Zen on the Japanese nation was deeply imprinted in Kawabata's heart.Zen thoughts such as "everything is the same","reincarnation",and "the heart is inconsistent" allowed him to ingeniously inject white into the literary world. He can describe the ideological situation he is pursuing, and at the same time,it reflects the aesthetic pursuit of the Japanese nation for the elegance. The fourth chapter begins with the theme of red under warm and death. As the most intense color of high brightness and purity, red often gives people a positive emotional attribute. In Kawabata literature, red not only expresses the beauty of positive women, but also knocks the door of death hanging in the heart. This color choice is accompanied by both warm and gloomy which reflects Kawabata Yasunari's emotional sustenance..Therefore,he will shape female images such as Komaga,Mrs.Ota,and use the power of color to tell his beautiful wish for purity and true love.Simultaneously, the use of "red and white contrast","combination of red and white"and other color expression techniques also makes the character image more vivid, and the emotional expression is more delicate and rich.In short, color,as a most intuitive and vivid visual symbol, not only carries the aesthetic taste of the Japanese nation, but also plays an important role in Kawabata's performance of character image, externalized emotion, and deepening the theme of the work.Color uses its irreplaceable emotional expressiveness to tell us about Kawabata and his mysterious and beautiful literary world.Consequently, color can become an vital research perspective for us to continue to explore Kawabata literature.
