A Comparison Of Marx's And Simmelian Views Of Space

Since 1960s,spatial thinking has been emerging as a new research paradigm.After the research and development of many marxist scholars from Lefebvre to David Harvey,the system of space philosophy with the core of marxist concept of space has gradually formed and achieved certain research results.At the same time,the thinking paths and theoretical achievements of some modern philosophers and sociologists in the study of social space have been gradually explored by scholars,including Georg Simmel.Simmel,as a German philosopher and sociologist with special characteristics,has unique insights and research thoughts on a series of social problems in the process of spatial organization and spatial production of modern capitalism.This paper argues that Marx and Simmel lived in the same historical period,the two masters of philosophy and sociology,each have a unique spatial thinking: compared with Marx,from the perspective of the economy and production and life,pay attention to the concept of social space of real practice,Simmel on for the interpretation of social space there is a clear difference in the way and the path difference,and their spatial thinking to solve the problem of contemporary social space each have a unique value,so it is necessary to carry out the concept of space of both the systematic comparative study.This paper makes a textual systematic review of Marx's view of space and Simmel's view of space,and compares their similarities and differences,focusing on their different understandings of space.Marx's and Simmel's views of space are similar in many aspects: what they focus on is the humanized and social space,while the space separated from human and in the physical sense is not within the scope of their views.The influence of monetary capital on social space plays a very important role in Marx's and Simmel's views of space.The formation of the city,the intensification of the spatial contradictions within the city and the antagonism between urban and rural areas are also the focus of their spatial thinking.These similarities and similarities reflect that both Marx and Simmel have deep concerns and thoughts on the same social space problems in their times.At the same time,the two have distinct differences in the perspective of social space problems,social space contradictions,ideological paths,solutions,such as the philosophical problem that Marx wants to solve is a subversive and fundamental philosophical problem,and his view of space is much larger than that of simmel.Simmel,on the other hand,paid more attention to People's Daily emotional life,personality and the survival of subjective culture,and liked to discuss the interaction between people's emotional life and social spatial representation in depth by taking the relatively micro visual spatial representation as the entry point.This determines that there are obvious differences in the ideological paths of the two men's views on space.Marx's spatial thinking mainly starts from economic problems,while Simmel's spatial thinking starts from social and cultural contradictions and conflicts.Marx paid more attention to social reality,while Simmel paid more attention to people's inner emotions.Since the two have different philosophical and sociological problems to solve,there are also obvious differences in the perspectives,ideological paths and dialectical understanding of space problems.This paper investigates the differences between their views on space from macro and micro perspectives,economy and culture,reality and emotion.China's urbanization process is in the stage of rapid progress,many urban space problems,urban and rural contradictions are highlighted.With the change of the basic contradiction in China,the balance and coordination of regional development become more important,and many new problems and challenges are faced.In this article,through inductive study between Marx and Simmel space ideas in their works,Marx and Simmel space concept of same and different,from the vision of space philosophy analysis of Marx and Simmel capitalization to antagonism between urban and rural areas,space,monetary dominant value judgment and a series of modernity and the understanding of the social problems,and tries to dig out the solution to China's facing a lot of space development,regional coordination problem of new ideas,combing China's urbanization,regional coordinated development need to pay attention to and solve the key problems in the process,for China's urbanization process to provide more diversified new perspective to analyze the problem.At the same time,it explores the significance and value of urban space view to urban construction in China.
