Picture book is a kind of narrative art which deeply cultivates the relationship between pictures and texts.It is also a kind of printed media with rich book forms.The book format,visual image and story text constitute the three elements of picture book narrative.This paper focuses on the form of picture books,and studies the phenomenon that the external structure of books changes from material carrier to narrative language in the narrative structure of picture books.Firstly,this paper traces back to the source,from the printing technology,art history,the development process of individual authors and small publishing houses to explore the historical context of the evolution of picture book form.By introducing specific cases,this paper summarizes the main formal features of book form influencing Picture Book Narrative Structure: space construction,structural design and material use.Then,we can get the double value of the book form innovation of picture books.The first the symbiosis of picture,text and book in the creation of picture books.The second is the representation of "embodiment" in picture book reading.When "the form of book" becomes "the word of book",from the perspective of media communication,the material media and narrative carrier of storing and circulating information become the information system itself.From the perspective of picture book creation,the external materialized form of books turns into the rational construction of book content,and the book form becomes the third dimension parallel to the graphic narration.The inherent system of picture books has been challenged,and the definition and boundary of picture books have been expanded,showing an inclusive and open pattern of contemporary picture books.
