An Exploration Of Liu Xian's Prints

As a pioneer of the “Wood Engraving ”movement and the organizer of “Weiming Woodcut ”,Mr.Liu Xian is one of the earliest Chinese woodcut artist in wood engraving.He has devoted his life to the exploration and research of woodcut prints.His works are highly decorative,with unique cutting technique and rigorous composition,generated a special woodcut style.The theme of Mr.Liu Xian's creation followed the changes of his time,expressed sincerely feelings and thoughts.He made a positive and far-reaching influence on the development of Chinese modern prints art.This essay consists of the following four parts : The first part is a biographical sketch,a brief introduction to Liu Xian's growth and life story.The second part of the article analyzes Liu Xian's woodcut language.Firstly,it compares the development of Liu Xian's woodcut language,tries to analyze the reasons for the transformation of his woodcut language,and summarizes the characteristics of his woodcut language at each stage,secondly,it analyzes the knife technique,black and white,composition,and figure shape in his woodcut language,and finally,it analyzes the emotion he wanted to convey from the level of his woodcut language.In the third part,the three important subjects of Liu Xian's prints are explained and analyzed.The fourth part summarizes Liu Xian's contribution to the development of Chinese woodcut,and his personal artistic attitude.
