Research On Subtitle Translation Of Sports Character Documentaries From The Perspective Of Multimodal Discourse Analysis

Subtitle translation is not only about text conversion,but also involves such factors as the culture,language habits and environment of the source and target languages.The quality of subtitle translation not only directly affects the quality of the film,but also has an impact on cross-cultural communication.The existing research on subtitle translation has mainly focused on film and television,and there is less research on subtitle translation in documentaries,especially sports character documentaries.The research on subtitle translation mostly adopts functional equivalence theory,relevance theory,and aesthetic theory,focusing on the single mode of subtitle translation text,ignoring the influence of other modes such as sound and image on subtitles translation.The images,sounds,facial expressions,actions and other modalities in the documentary play an important role in the expression of the theme of the documentary and the shaping of the image of the characters.Therefore,they should become an integral part of the subtitle translation.Multimodal discourse analysis treats sounds,images,expressions,and actions as an inseparable part of the text,breaking through the limitations of traditional translation research and providing a new perspective for the research on documentary subtitle translation.This article uses literature research method,case analysis method and text analysis method to study the relationship between visual symbols and subtitles in sports character documentaries from three aspects: interconceptual complementarity,interpersonal complementarity and compositional complementarity in a multimodal perspective,and discusses the problem of subtitle translation on this basis and summarizes the strategies and methods of subtitle translation.In order to improve the subtitle translation of sports character documentaries based on multimodal discourse analysis,this article also analyzes the intertextual information of relevant characters internal and external the documentary,so that the subtitle translation can meet the expectations of the audience and achieve better results.The author divides this article into five parts.The first part summarizes the basis and significance of the topic,the research content and methods;the second part is a literature review and concept definition,including the current status of domestic and foreign research on sports character documentaries and multimodal discourse analysis,as well as the definition,influencing factors and importance of subtitle translation,which lay the foundation for the following analysis of subtitle translation;the third and fourth parts are the main part,guided by the theory of multimodal discourse analysis,with the subtitle translation in Muse as the analysis object,the author studies the complementarity of visual symbols and subtitles in sports character documentaries from three aspects: interconceptual complementarity,interpersonal complementarity and compositional complementarity,and further discusses the issue of subtitle translation.Research has shown that visual modalities such as images,mouth shapes,and expressions in sports character documentaries have an impact on subtitle translation from a multi-modal perspective.In the translation process,the translator needs to deal with and coordinate the relationship between multi-modality and subtitles.In addition,translators can use the internal and external intertextual information of the documentary to further improve the subtitle translation and make the subtitle translation meet the expectations of the audience.The last part is a summary of the research on subtitle translation of sports character documentary.
