The Effect Of Adult Attachment On Intimacy Satisfaction Among Sexual Minorities—a Moderated Mediation Model

Compared with the traditional heterosexual group,sexual minorities are more likely to encounter discrimination and humiliation in life.Facing these unfair treatment,it is easy to affect the individual's mental health,and the support of intimate relationship helps to alleviate the impact of such negative events.Through the research on the influencing factors of intimate relationship of sexual minorities,this paper aims to understand their views and expectations on intimate relationship,so as to help them improve the possibility of establishing a good intimate relationship and the level of mental health.This study investigated the Relationships among adult attachment,self-concept clarity,self-esteem and intimate relationship satisfaction by using the Experiences in Close Relationships(ECR),Self-concept Clarity Questionnaire,Self-esteem Scale and Intimate Relationship Satisfaction Questionnaire.A total of 385 questionnaires were collected,and 357 questionnaires were obtained after excluding the data of non-sexual minorities.The results showed that:1.The attachment type of sexual minorities is more insecure,accounting for about83.8%.Among them,fear type accounts for 42.0%,infatuation type accounts for29.1%,and apathy type accounts for 12.6%.2.The education level of sexual minorities is 40.06% or lower than that of heterosexual groups,which is lower than that of heterosexual groups.3.Attachment avoidance negatively predicted relationship satisfaction;Self-esteem played a partial mediating role in the relationship satisfaction of attachment avoidance.Self-concept clarity and self-esteem played a chain-mediated role in the relationship satisfaction of attachment avoidance.4.Self-esteem played a complete mediating role in the relationship satisfaction of attachment anxiety;Self-concept clarity and self-esteem played a chain mediating role in the relationship satisfaction of attachment anxiety.Self-esteem partially mediates the effect of attachment avoidance on intimacy satisfaction;The problem of sexual minorities is not only related to the sexual minorities themselves,but also related to the close family,partners,friends and so on.It is very difficult to adhere to the self in the traditional heterosexual culture.Through the discussion of the intimate relationship between sexual minorities,I hope more people can see them,enhance their confidence in life,get more support,reduce or eliminate the public discrimination and prejudice against sexual minorities,respect others,and promote the harmonious development of society.
