Though elementary Chinese speaking is an important and basic course in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,its related discipline is still under construction.In recent years,related teaching practice has also reflected many problems.During the teaching practice,the author explores that the classroom atmosphere is boring,the learning content is not practical and teachers and students don't get along well with one another,which leads to poor teaching effects in elementary Chinese speaking class.The subjects of the study come from the elementary Chinese Speaking class of the Confucius Institute at the University of the Gambia.Before teaching,the author investigated the students' attitudes toward learning speaking Chinese,and then introduced Task-based Language Teaching(TBLT)method into the class.The experiment aimed to prove the effectiveness of TBLT method in the elementary Chinese speaking class,hoping that the application and practice of TBLT method can provide some thoughts on oral Chinese teaching as a foreign language in the new era.The teaching experiment was conducted between two parallel classes for one semester.All the subjects were randomly divided into two classes,with 12 in each class,totally 24 students.Among them,the experimental class implemented TBLT,while the control class implemented traditional PPP paradigm.In this experiment,the observations of the two classes were recorded.After the teaching experiment,oral tests and questionnaires were conducted on the students.Finally,the qualitative and quantitative analysis were used to analyze the data from the oral test,the classroom observation and the questionnaire.The result showed that in oral test,the students in the experimental class were higher than those in the control class in terms of fluency,accuracy and complexity of language expression.The data of observation table and students' learning input state table revealed that the classroom atmosphere of the experimental class was obviously better than that of the control class.The questionnaire data proved the subjective evaluation and satisfaction with teaching of the students in the experimental class were also higher.Therefore,it was believed that TBLT was effective in elementary oral Chinese teaching,which can effectively enhance learners' spoken Chinese abilities,improve the classroom atmosphere,and obtain higher evaluation from the learners.This paper also reflected and summarized the teaching practice,and put forward some suggestions for future research.Finally,the study summarized the main findings and limitations,and provided insights to the further implementation and research of task-based language teaching in oral Chinese as a foreign language in the future.
