Public art has already undertaken the heavy burden of constructing city image and stimulating social memory,while commemorative public art helps stimulate the identity sense of masses.History event reproduction is to recall collective common memory in the form of art.We should not only review history image by using the contemporary view,but also need to express the authenticity of events and reproduce the scene of history.Based on “image” and reproduction,this article conducts research on reproductive and commemorative public art.By comparing a great number of large history paints,the author finds a way to reproduce history to guide the creation of commemorative public art.The article is divided into four sections: the first chapter mainly clarifies the concept of image and iconography,which further distinguishes the difference and relation between imitation and reappearance,reappearance and expression,restoration and virtualization.Documents are collected to verify three sections: characters and events,words and pictures,facts and stories to summarize three ways of visualization.The second chapter defines the similarity and difference between large history paintings and public art to explain three aspects,including the function of public art,the basic pattern of reproductive public art and the way of expression.Also,it introduces the representative cases of four reproductive ways.The third chapter shows a creation process of painting words from nothing in commemorative public art.At last,the author rethinks about theme creation based on the history paintings exhibition of national museum.The fourth chapter analyzes the design plan of public art experiment in Nanjing University of the Arts according to school history,which intends to enlighten creation ideas.This article includes 76 pictures,4 charts,54271 words,4 chapters and13 parts in total.
