With the rise of China,China's international status is continuously improving and its influence in the world are also increasing day by day.At the same time,China has also paid more and more attention to the dissemination and shaping of its national image.As one of the most acceptable and effective way of communication method,the teaching of Chinese as a second language has begun to reveal its advantages,Chinese textbooks have also played a unique role in presenting and shaping the image of the country.Therefore,based on the research of predecessor scholars,this paper attempts to start with Chinese textbooks and examine the image of China in textbooks.This paper selects the series of Chinese textbooks "Developing Chinese-Intermediate Comprehensive Course" and "Boya Chinese-Intermediate " as the research objects,using literature research method,qualitative and quantitative analysis method,comparative analysis method,and questionnaire survey method,from the categories of the country image,the presentative ways of the country image,and the tendency of the country image era to analyze and compare the national image of two sets of Chinese textbooks.Through the analysis,the two sets of textbooks have a wide selection of national image categories,but pay more attention to the display of China's cultural image,social image and geographical image,especially for shaping and presenting Chinese cultural image.In the way of presentation,the text as the main carrier to build and present the national image.Generally speaking,there are many similarities between the two sets of textbooks,but there are some differences in the specific category selection and presentation mode,each with its own emphasis.The two sets of textbooks also have some common problems,such as the lack of comprehensive involvement in the dimension of national image,the imbalance between the traditional image of China and the contemporary image of China.Based on the analysis results,this paper puts forward some suggestions for the compilation of teaching materials: 1.Build and present the national image in multiple dimensions;2.Both ancient and modern,with equal emphasis on traditional culture and contemporary life;3.Focus on the text presentation and expand the relevant contents in the exercises.
