The selected text of the translation practice report is the fifth chapter “Behavioural Correlates of Welfare” of The Science of Animal Welfare: Understanding What Animals Want, which mainly discusses how to scientifically evaluate animal welfare.According to the content and language features of the text, this practice report addresses the difficulties in translation from three perspectives: context analysis, sequential adjustment, and discourse cohesion.Animal welfare science contains a wide range of disciplines, and some common words have different meanings in the text.We should not only use professional dictionaries to understand the background knowledge of related disciplines, but more importantly,we should pay attention to the context of the source text and accurately choose the meaning of words. For the sentence structure, attention should be paid to distinguishing the difference in order between English and Chinese, prioritizing and adjusting the order of words. In terms of discourse cohesion,it lists four forms of translation: amplification, omission, repetition and reverse to solve the problems of poor logical connection and semantic ambiguity in the translation, based on the hierarchical connectivity and functional integrity of the discourse.Through the analysis and summary of the above three aspects, this translation practice report is expected to provide reference for the translation practice of the same theme.
