A Report On E-C Translation Of Popular Science

This paper is a translation report.The author selects a popular science book Animal Courtship as the material to make Peter Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation apply in the translation process.Under the guidance of Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation,the author deeply probes into the function of them to avoid meaning missing and incoherence between source text and target text.To realize the function the author uses the translation methods of keeping the fixed expression,adaptation,amplification and free translation and translation skills of following the original syntactic order,turning phrases into clauses,reinventing sentence structures and reframing discourses.This paper firstly makes an analysis of the status quo of popular science during the latest years,the research of semantic translation and communicative translation theories and then determined the paper topic of popular science E-C translation;secondly,it makes an introduction to Peter Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation,and features of popular science and key and difficult points when translate popular science articles;thirdly,by case study method,the author makes an analysis of typical source text and target and the readability of the E-C translation,summing up the translation methods and techniques in the E-C translation of popular science under the guidance of semantic translation and communicative transaltion.Finally,the author puts forward some advice for improvement,in an attempt to provide reference to other popular science E-C translation.
