Research On "Mandarin Wei Jie Supplement"

Guoyu(????)was republished since the beginning of the Han Dynasty,and many scholars annotated it during the Han and Wei dynasties,such as Zheng Zhong,Jia Kui,and Fu Qian in the Han Dynasty,Tang Gu,Yu Feng,Sun Yan,Wei Zhao,and Wang Su in the Three Kingdoms Period,and Kong Chao in the Jin Dynasty.However,among the nine well-known commentaries,only Wei Zhao's Guoyu explanation was eventually preserved in its entirety and has been passed down to the present day.Therefore,Wei Zhaozhu has an insurmountable and important position in the study of Guoyu.By the Qing Dynasty,the Traditional Chinese Linguistics research flourished,and annotated studies of Guoyu were also thriving.There are monographs on exegesis that specifically supplement Wei Zhao's annotation,as well as compilations that collate and collect the annotated editions of various Guoyu.On the basis of the Guoyu research results which came from Yao Nai,Wang Yinzhi,Dong Zengling,Wang Yuansun,Huang Pilie,Wu Zengqi wrote the book Guoyu Weijie Buzheng(????????),which can be described as a compilation of merits.This essay aims to explain the socio-academic background of the book and the author's motivation for writing it,starting from the author's biography.Through the classification and quantification of Wu Zengqi's case studies,the contents of the case studies are sorted out,the characteristics of the supplement are summarized,and Wu Zengqi's style of scholarship on the commentary of the Guoyu is summarized.By comparing the case studies with Wei's commentary,the slightly earlier Guoyu Zhengyi,the Qing journals,and the slightly later Guoyu Jijie,the value and status of the Supplementary Correction in the exegetical study of the Guoyu is explored.The current research on the Guoyu Weijie Buzheng and Wu Zengqi's scholarly contributions is flourishing,but is rather scattered.Thus there is still much room for research.The focus on and study of the Guoyu Weijie Buzheng is,on the one hand,a supplement to the study of Guoyu exegesis in the Republican period and,on the other hand,a pavement for a comprehensive examination of Wu Zengqi's scholarly activities.
