Identity Adjustment And Media Connection: A Study Of Resistance In Chinese Hip-Hop Music

Youth subculture is a subsystem of the whole social culture.The research on the youth subculture which is popular in a certain period is helpful to understand the psyc hological activities and value orientation of the youth and to find the structural proble ms existing in the period of social transition.In recent years,through several network variety shows,hip-hop music has set off an upsurge among Chinese youth.Taking hip-hop culture as an example,it highlights the characteristic of "resistance" of youth su bculture in particular.Based on lyrics text content of 120 hot hip-hop songs and the in terview content no less than 270 minutes with nine Chinese rappers,this study uses re search methods of text content analysis and semi-structured interview,exploring the h idden motivation of youth action and identity transformation behind,as well as the important role of media plays in the "resistant" expression of hip-hop m usic.Based on the critical reading rap songs' theme,this paper deeply describes the co ntent of resistant expression and the value orientation of young rappers through rap m usic,excavates the key value that youth uses to construct and realize self-identity,finds that the core motivation of youth group's enthusiasm for resistant expression lies in the identity anxiety under the influence of social structural violence.When the key value of their original narrative identity is threatened,they will feel the anxiety of identity disillusioned,process blocked and choice out of control.In order to survive,they have to choose resistance or assimilation as narrative identity adjustmen t strategy to realize self-identity correction.In this process,hip-hop music,as a comm unication medium,not only has the significance of media technology,but is also embedded in the daily life of young people who are in the period of identity adj ustment in the double connection between technology and text,technology and subjec t action.By lowering the material and technological threshold,technology empowerm ent can be realized,which helps youth complete the construction of identity meaning,condenses the youth's consciousness of group community and national community,an d reflects the increasingly important function of media in cultural integration and soci al organization.
