A Study Of Mohist Thought As Seen On Tsinghua Bamboo Slips

In the literature that was handed down for generations,the Mohism was mainly presented in the book Mo Tzu.As the Mohism's influence weakened gradually after the Qin and Han Dynasties,and insufficient attention was paid to the classics in the educational circles,resulting in the loss of characters and texts.After the collation of Mo Tzu by Wang Zhong,the efforts of Bi Yuan,Sun Yirang,Wu Yujiang and other scholars,many errors in the book were corrected so that it was finally fluent and legible.However,the previous literature collation had laid a foundation for the Mohism study,but the overall situation of the field was still hard to compare with its former prominence.Since the publication of Tsinghua Bamboo Slips' brief materials,the educational circles had noticed that the Mohism was contained in lots of literature,which provided valuable materials for the Mohism study.This paper analyzes and sorts out the literature related to the Mohism from the perspective of text analysis,word interpretation and ideological characteristics,aiming to study factors of the Mohism in Tsinghua Bamboo Slips and promote the study and understanding of Tsinghua Bamboo Slips and the Mohism.There are following five parts in the paper:Part one is the introduction.First,the purpose and significance of the topic are stated.Second,the status of the Mohism study at home and abroad is reviewed and summarized.Third,the chapter briefly summarizes the study methods and ideas to lay the groundwork for thought and purpose of the paper.Part two analyzes Mozi and the Mohism in brief from the perspective of the philology and thought history.First of all,the book Mo Tzu is briefly introduced,including its basic structure,important version circulated and ideological connotation.Besides,the chapter reviews the relevant study and traces back the academic history to prepare for the upcoming study.Moreover,based on the time background of the Mohism,the chapter further discusses the characteristics of the Mohism to reveal the formation and internal relationships of its ideological system.Finally,the differentiation phenomenon of the Mohism in the late Warring States period was discussed.The third and fourth Parts go deep into the Mohism in the six bamboo slips of Tsinghua Bamboo Slips from the point of ideological characteristics,including the correspondence of these bamboo slips and Mo Tzu in terms of content,expression form,word usage and ideological connotation.At the same time,the two chapters also analyze and study the peculiarity of the Mohism in these bamboo slips to learn more about the development and effect of the Mohism in the State of Chu during the Warring States period.The last part is the conclusion,which aims to review the study results and make a summary of the paper.
