With rapid development of social economy and rapid transformation of social structure,the gap between the rich and the poor has become increasingly apparent,and social stratification has become an indisputable objective fact.However,it is worth pondering whether the social stratification caused by the gap between the rich and the poor has formed the distinction between cultural taste and lifestyle.In the traditional Chinese society,the leap from the lower class to the higher class is achieved by investing in cultural education.Nowadays,with our society's increasing demand for comprehensive quality and all-round talents,the approaches for social mobility are extended.Sports participation,as an important means of strengthening the body,improving the psychology,shaping a healthy personality,and promoting interpersonal communication,has gradually been incorporated into family education.So,will family capital affect middle school students' sports participation? If it will,how?Based on Bourdieu 's capital theory and Coleman 's social capital theory,this study divides family capital that may affect middle school students 'sports participation into three dimensions: family economic capital,family cultural capital,and family social capital.The measuring tools are specially-designed survey questionnaires and interview outlines.Sample surveys and interviews were conducted among students and their parents of two middle schools,The Experimental High School Attached To Beijing Normal University and Beijing No.11 Middle School.This research combines qualitative and quantitative research to understand and analyze the impact of family capital on sports participation of middle school students.After analyzing the data and materials obtained,it is found that:(1)Family capital has an important impact on the sports participation of middle school students,among which the income factor in the family economic capital,the educational level of parents in the family cultural capital,and the profession and stratum of parents in the family social capital have the most profound impact on middle school students' sports participation.(2)In exploring the mechanism of the role of family capital in sports participation of middle school students,we learned from interviews that family economic capital mainly affects sports participation of middle school students through sports investment;family cultural capital mainly affects sports participation of middle school students through family sports atmosphere;family social capital mainly affects middle school students' sports participation through lifestyle and parent-child relationship.Family economic capital,family cultural capital,and family social capital are closely related and can be converted to each other under certain conditions.The mutual influence and penetration of various family capitals have formed a difference in the amount and quality of sports participation among middle school students.(3)In order to gradually alleviate the negative impact of family capital on middle school students 'sports participation,this thesis puts forward three suggestions: one is to introduce government and social resources to the middle school students' sports participation field;the second is that parents should establish proper sports values and lead by example;the third is to create a cooperative atmosphere of home-school cooperation and consistent cultivation.
