The international exchange and cooperation of higher education has set up a platform for people to people exchange to deepen national exchanges. As the main body of international exchange and cooperation of higher education between China and Southeast Asian countries,Southeast Asian students in China have multiple identities. They are not only messengers of culture, but also the cultural ties of national communication.in the same time, they are talents needed for the development of the Belt and Road Initiative. However, foreign students are the main body of the behavior, their behaviors are conscious and independent,Intercultural adaptation activities they participate in are also conscious behavior of the people with subject consciousness. Therefore, the perceptions of China overseas students have will not only affect their cross-cultural adaptation to life, but also affect the cultural exchanges between countries. This thesis is based on Southeast Asian students' perception of China in Yunnan Province, with questionnaire survey and personal in-depth interview from the three dimensions of foreign students' Chinese cognitions,Chinese emotions and behaviors in China to discusses the current situation of their perceptions of China, the problems and causes of their perceptions' problems and the countermeasures to cultivate their perceptions of China in order to use Chinese values to cultivate positive perception of China. The survey data shows: First, popular culture in China is the most popular Chinese culture for overseas students. The Internet is the main channel for overseas students to obtain Chinese information.Second, the overall evaluation of foreign students to China shows a neutral and positive trend.Third, most of international students can adapt to cross-cultural activities in China. However, the psychological and language adaptability of them are the main factors that cause the fluctuation of cross-cultural life.Through the analysis of the problems existing in the current situation of overseas students' perceptions of China,we can see there are three phenomena in the overseas students' perceptions of China, such as lack of understanding of China, blind conformity in emotion and individual differences in behavior. There are three main reasons for these phenomena.Firstly, international students are misled by the international public opinion under the western discourse power.Secondly, the self-interest needs of Southeast Asian countries affect the overseas students.Thirdly,Chinese values have limited influence on external communication.Fourthly, foreign students have different cross-cultural adaptability, social support and cultural conflicts. Therefore, this thesis puts forward the corresponding countermeasures from three aspects: Deepening the Chinese cognition, guiding the emotional attitude and enriching the cultural practice.First,we can cultivate the Chinese cognition of overseas students by telling the historical story of China, the common historical story between China and Southeast Asian countries, the story of China's modernization development, and the story of the Silk Road,Second,we should focus on optimizing the way of Chinese culture's external communication, strengthen communication and exchange, use differentiated communication, and use diversified media to expand the scope of Chinese culture communication. At the same time, facing the western slander of China,we should respond in time to prevent the expansion of the negative emotions of international audiences towards China.Third,we should take universities as the center to broaden the channels of cultural practice and enrich the forms of cultural practice for overseas students in China in order to help them improve their adaptability to cross-cultural life.
