| Pre-service geography teachers are the new force of middle school geography teachers,and they will shoulder the important mission of cultivating the core accomplishment of the new generation of geography students in the future.Pre-service geography teachers are in the preparatory period of professional development,and the development of professional ability is not yet mature.In this study,qualitative and quantitative methods are used to study the current situation and existing problems of the group’s professional ability,and corresponding promotion strategies are formulated,which is of great practical significance for the construction of high-quality and professional teachers.Based on the basic requirements of middle school teachers’ professional standards(trial)and the subject requirements of geography curriculum standards on the professional abilities of geography teachers,this study constructs the professional ability evaluation scale of pre-service geography teachers.Firstly,the scale includes 4first-level indicators and 13 corresponding second-level indicators,and further divides each professional ability into four levels(weak,average,strong and strong).In order to comprehensively and specifically evaluate the professional ability of pre-service geography teachers,the expert scoring method is used to determine the score of each index and its level.Secondly,the level one index includes four aspects:geography teaching design ability,geography teaching implementation ability,geography teaching evaluation ability,geography teaching communication and cooperation ability.Secondary index level,the ability of the geography teaching design including the design of target,content,method,design,multimedia courseware making and teaching plan writing ability,the geography teaching ability including language expression,geographical discipline knowledge teaching,classroom questioning skills,"three board" skills,classroom management and regulation ability,the geography teaching evaluation ability includes the comprehensive evaluation of students and teachers’ self evaluation and improvement,geography teachingcommunication and cooperation skills including communication and cooperation ability.Finally,the total score of the whole scale is 100 points,and the total score of all professional ability scores is divided into four grades: unqualified(0-60points);Medium(60-75 points,including 60 points);Good(75-90 points,including 75points);Excellent(90-100,including 90 points).Using the above evaluation scale,this paper evaluates the professional abilities of 30 pre service geography teachers in Y School of a normal university in Yunnan Province.The findings are as follows: First,the number of people whose professional ability scores of the evaluation samples are in the second(general)level,followed by the number in the third(strong)level.Secondly,the total score of the professional ability of the evaluation sample is the largest in the middle grade.The number of people in the good and excellent grades is next;The lowest number of people are in the nonconforming category.Thirdly,it analyzes the problems existing in the professional ability of the evaluation sample.The problems in the design ability of geography teaching include:(1)The goal writing is not comprehensive and the statement is not standard;(2)the teaching content is not clear,etc.There are some problems in the implementation ability of geography teaching:(1)Language lacks guidance;(2)the explanation of geographical knowledge is not in-depth,etc.There are some problems in the evaluation ability of geography teaching:(1)The main body of evaluating students is single;(2)self-evaluation is more passive,etc.There are some problems in the communication and cooperation ability of geography teaching:(1)The consciousness of communication and cooperation is not strong;(2)the attention to common problems is not enough,etc.Finally,the factors affecting the professional ability of pre-service geography teachers are found,including self-management and external environment.Based on the above research findings,this paper suggests that based on the constructed professional ability evaluation scale,pre-service geography teachers’ professional ability improvement strategies should be constructed from the four aspects of geography teaching design,implementation,evaluation and communication and cooperation ability,promote the professional ability of geography teachers. |
