《Secondary School Teachers’ Professional Standards(trial)》(hereinafter referred to as “Professional Standards”)put forward the basic professional requirement to secondary school teachers from three aspects “Professional idea and teachers’ ethics” “Professional knowledge” and “Professional ability”.Junior high school geography teachers’ professional development is inevitably influenced by“Professional Standards” as part of secondary school teachers.So I want to explore the gap between the current status of Junior high school geography teachers’ professional development and the requirement of “Professional Standards” in Gao Lan county,analyses the problems in the course of these teachers’ professional development,and try to put forward some suggestions on better promoting the professional development of the junior high school geography teachers in Gao Lan county.In order to complete the research question,I mainly uses the questionnaire survey method and interview method in this study.By investigating 22 junior high school geography teachers in 11 junior high schools through paper questionnaire,and mainly interviewing four junior high school geography teachers in Gao Lan county.The author learns about the current status of Gao Lan county Junior high school geography teachers’ professional development from six aspects: “The basic situation of teachers” “Professional idea and teachers’ ethics” “Professional knowledge”“Professional ability”“Professional development mode” and “Predicament of professional development”.Through the investigation,the author finds that,most geography teachers are mainly middle-aged teachers,and most of them are non-professional teachers.Professional geography teachers are very few.In terms of Professional idea and teachers’ ethics,most junior high school geography teachers in Gao Lan county like geography teaching work.They also can respect and treat students equally.But their sense of belonging to schools is not strong;In terms of professional knowledge,geography teachers in GaoLan county have rich pedagogy knowledge and generalknowledge,but the geography knowledge is relatively weak,and the understanding and application of pedagogical content knowledge is also not very good;In terms of professional ability,junior high school geography teachers in Gao Lan county have the ability of teaching design and class implementation,but their ability to use modern teaching methods,reflect and develop,as well as the ability to use and develop curriculum resources are weaker;In terms of professional development mode,junior high school geography teachers in Gao Lan county generally,they promote their professional development by reading books,but used to promote the professional development time is very limited.Due to geographical subject is not valued and geography teachers lack of professional development motivation and other reasons,result in Gao Lan county junior high school geography teachers’ professional development more slowly.Based on the above research,in order to promote these teachers’ professional development better,I put forward some suggestions from three aspects of educational department,schools,and geography teachers themselves.
