In order to follow the international trend of improving teachers' professional ability and building high-quality teachers team, "middle school teachers' professional standard(trial)" (hereinafter referred to as the "professional standard") was issued by the Ministry of Education in December 2011. "Professional standard" clearly put forward the basic concept of "ability" as one of teacher professional development to highlight the importance of teachers' professional ability. In this study, the evaluation system of pre-service geography teachers' professional ability was established based on"professional standard" and combined with practical examples, and the present status and problems of pre-service geography teachers' instructional design ability, teaching implementing ability, and teaching evaluation ability were summarized and the corresponding improving-strategies were put forward. This study will be of great significance to enrich the research of training pre-service geography teachers'professional ability, expand the awareness of "professional standard", provide guidance for the development of pre-service geography teacher's professional ability. This thesis is divided into six parts:The first part is introduction which is mainly about the research background,significance and the status quo of the research, and the framework of the paper.The second part is the theory foundation. Through the whole explanation and structural analysis of "professional standard" and defining the concept of "pre-service geography teachers" and "geography teachers' professional ability", the theoretical basis of this study was defined, including geographical science, geography curriculum and teaching theory and the theory of teacher professional development stage.The third part is about the establishing of evaluation system. Under the guidance of"professional standard"-based principle, geography characteristic principle, operative principle and systemic principle, the evaluation system of pre-service geography teachers' professional ability was established, which consist of geography teaching design ability evaluation system, geography teaching ability evaluation system and geography education teaching evaluation ability evaluation system.The fourth part is the investigation and problem analysis of present situation. First,the investigation of current situation on pre-service geography teachers' professional ability was performed using case analysis method, classroom observation method, and questionnaire method. Then, the reasons for the existing deficiency of pre-service geography teachers' professional ability were analyzed and summed based on questionnaire results and undergraduate-level training program.The fifth part is the proposed strategies on improving pre-service geography teachers' professional ability. To improve the ability of the geography teaching design,pre-service geography teachers should pay more attention on the study of geography curriculum and geography teaching design method, the full development and rational using of geography curriculum resources, strengthening the practice of geography teaching design. Besides, the strategies on improving geography teaching ability include:study education teaching theory and strengthen the skills training; consummate curriculum setting based on "professional standard"; build teaching resources platform;strengthen the supervision and management of teaching practice. In addition, mastering education teaching evaluation theory and learning the evaluation experience from excellent teachers should be the two strategies to improve pre-service geography teachers' education teaching evaluation ability.The sixth part is the conclusion of the thesis. The conclusion is showed as follows:pre-service geography teachers should possess instructional design ability, teaching ability and education teaching evaluation ability; the evaluation system of pre-service geography teachers' professional ability consist of geography teaching design ability evaluation system, geography teaching ability evaluation system and geography education teaching evaluation ability evaluation system; three aspects, including geography teaching design ability, geography teaching ability, geography education teaching evaluation ability, should be performed to improve pre-service geography teachers' professional ability.
