Mathematics is a subject written by mathematical symbols.The study of mathematics is essentially the study of mathematical symbols.A good sense of mathematical symbols can promote students to understand abstract mathematical symbols,use mathematical symbols to solve mathematical problems,and experience math.The mathematical thinking behind the symbols has an irreplaceable role in students' mathematical learning.Mathematics reading is a self-learning way for students to acquire mathematics knowledge and develop mathematical thinking.Having good mathematics reading ability is conducive to students 'better understanding of mathematics textbooks and interpretation of mathematics questions,and it has an important impact on students' mastery and breakthrough of mathematics knowledge.But nowadays,there are few related studies on the two.Therefore,the author takes eighth-grade students as the research object,with the help of the literature analysis method,defines the concept of mathematical reading ability and mathematical symbol consciousness,and builds a theoretical framework of the two on this basis,as a reference for the preparation of this research test questionnaire At the same time,the questionnaire survey method was used to study the status of the eighth grade students' mathematical symbol awareness and mathematical reading ability,and the data analysis was carried out with the help of SPSS statistical software,and the following conclusions were obtained:(1)The grade eight students' mathematics sign consciousness performs better overall,and there is a significant difference in gender.The performance of male students is better than that of girls;(2)The mathematics reading ability of the eighth grade students is more worrying,The overall reading ability of the students is at the lower middle level,and there are also gender differences;(3)There is a significant positive relationship between students' mathematical symbol consciousness and mathematical reading ability,and from the regression analysis,the two are linearly related and can predict each other;(4)Based on the research results,combined with the actual teaching,some suggestions for cultivating students' math reading ability and math symbol awareness were put forward.In the sense of mathematical symbols,we focus on introducing teaching and embodying the process of symbolization;carrying out variant teaching to understand mathematical symbols;grasping relationships and establishing symbolic connections.In mathematics reading ability,overcome the fear of difficulty,cultivate reading patience;use mind maps to simplify reading content;make good use of prompt language to improve reading metacognition.Finally,with the help of mathematics reading,students' awareness of the perception and recognition,abstraction and expression of mathematical symbols are improved.
