Abstract/Summary:
School engagement is the internal engine of academic development and the improvement of education quality. As an individual shows full mental state and good psychological toughness during learning, academic investment plays an important role in the school engagement and future development of students.Students in the compulsory education stage are in a critical period of physical and mental development and changes, and they are extremely susceptible to the surrounding environment in all aspects of their study and life.As an important place for individual growth and socialization, the family plays an irreplaceable role in the process of academic and ability development.Exploring the influence of family factors on students’ school engagement has important theoretical and practical significance. It is not only helpful to open up the "black box" of family factors affecting students’ school engagement-explain the specific influencing mechanism, and better understand and realize educational equity. It is of great significance to promote intergenerational mobility.Accordingly, this research focused on the question of "how family factors affect students’ school engagement",and selected students from four primary and secondary schools in G City and S City as the research objects.Starting from the perspective of family structural factors and family process factors, this research carried out family attribution on the improvement path of students’school engagement and further explored the influence of family factors on school engagement and the micro-mechanism.As a result, intervention strategies should be taken to improve the school engagement of students from different families and help their parents make rational educational decisions. It can also provide reference for the country to formulate family education policies and build a family guidance service system.First of all, this research analyzed the differences in individual characteristics and family characteristics of students’ school engagement to understand the basic situation of students’ school engagement.Secondly, through multiple regression analysis,we found that family process factors such as family socioeconomic status, family education resource input, and parental participation had a positive impact on students’ school engagement to a certain extent, and family process factors had a greater impact. Finally, through the latent regulatory structural equation method(LMS),we further analyzed the specific influence mechanism of family process factors on academic input. The result showed that parental participation plays a moderating role in the impact of family education resources on academic input. In response to the above analysis results,it’s believed that the support system outside the family should be strengthened, and a family education support system that integrates school, family, and community should be constructed.Specific measures included:increasing compensation for disadvantaged families and providing multi-faceted support for disadvantaged families;guiding parents to change their education concepts, strengthening their main responsibility for family education, and paying attention to process companionship and strengthening parent-child interactions, and improving the quality of parental participation;Establish a good home-school-community cooperation mechanism, and make use of the joint efforts of education to jointly increase students’ school engagement.
