Gamification is the use of game mechanisms in non-gaming contexts in order to increase individual engagement and motivation.Prior work has focused on gamification elements such as points, levels, and badges as extrinsic motivators to traditional elementary education course activities. The current study explored the effects of game mechanisms on learning motivation, attitude, participation, and collaboration. Two rounds of research was conducted,60 college students enrolled in the first round, which integrates the resource collection, competition and collaboration, roleplaying into the course content. In addition,16 college students participated in the second round, which integrates guild resource collection and guild competition into the course content. Both experiments lasted for 8 weeks, based on the Moodle online course "Information and E-Government”.Data was collected through observation, website log,post-course semi-structure interviews and questionnaire.Validity was strengthened by triangulation of these sources. The data was analyzed with structural equation and multiple regression analysis. This study indicated that,(1)Resource accumulation mechanics only has significantly positive impact on learners' learning attitudes.(2)Role playing mechanics only has significantly positive effect on learning participation and collaboration.(3)Competition and collaboration mechanics have significantly positive effect on learners' motivation and learning attitudes.(4)Guild game mechanics have significantly positive effect on learners' collaboration, social interaction capabilities, and learner teamwork effectiveness.
