As one of the three main subjects in our country,mathematics occupies an important position in the college entrance examination subjects,and has always been the focus of researchers' attention.Algebra processing is an important part of mathematics processing.It is the key to individual mathematics learning and the foundation for students to learn advanced mathematics.Mastering the algebraic processing is very important to the individual's mathematics academic performance.Ethnic education has always attracted much attention.Algebra is an important part of mathematics learning.To a certain extent,algebra achievement represents mathematics academic achievement.So,what is the current situation of Tibetan students' algebra learning? What kind of factors will affect the algebra learning of Tibetan students? This is the focus of this research.Research has found that algebraic processing is affected by many factors.It includes both external factors(such as teachers' teaching methods,students' interest in learning,and the use of teaching materials)as well as internal factors(such as cognitive mechanism,memory level,metacognitive level,etc.).In recent years,researchers have begun to pay attention to the impact of cognitive ability.Research has found that students' graphic level,reasoning ability,memory ability,metacognitive state,mental arithmetic development level,and spatial imagination ability all affect the level of algebra learning.Behavioral experiments generally mix algebra problems with other types of problems up,such as geometry and application problems.There is no algebra experiment material that is simply represented by letters,so that it is impossible to get the precise cognitive characteristics of algebra processing.Previous studies have also found that in addition to the influence of spatial ability,language ability can significantly affect the mastery of mathematical concepts,but has little effect on pure calculation ability.In order to explore the influence of spatial ability and language ability on algebraic processing,this research mainly selects three algebraic processing: algebraic calculation,algebraic concepts,and algebraic problem solving.At the same time,it examines whether spatial ability has different effects on different types of algebraic processing.What is the effect of language ability on algebraic processing? And how do these two kinds of cognitive abilities affect algebra processing and thus mathematics learning?The study of Tibetan students has always been of great concern.Due to the unique geographical location and the complexity of the cultural environment of Tibetan students,their educational development also has its own characteristics.The mathematics learning of Tibetan students is the focus of the research,so this study selects Tibetan students studying in the Mainland as the subjects.Tibetan students are currently in a critical period of general mathematics development.The overall teaching level needs to be improved.Students are eager to learn,but there is no better learning method.It is very important to fully understand the characteristics of Tibetan students' mathematics learning and to put forward corresponding mathematics learning suggestions.This study further compared the cognitive mechanism of Tibetan students' arithmetic processing and algebraic processing,in order to have a better understanding of the characteristics of Tibetan students' arithmetic processing and algebraic processing,to reveal the laws of Tibetan students' mathematical processing,and to provide Tibetan students efficient advice of algebraic processing.Through two studies to systematically investigate the role of spatial ability and language ability in the algebraic processing of Tibetan students,this research comprehensively explores the cognitive mechanism of algebraic processing of Tibetan students.In order to better understand the characteristics of Tibetan students' algebra processing,so as to improve the mathematics learning of Tibetan students.Study one examines the relationship between spatial ability and algebraic processing,and chooses to replace mathematical processing tasks(algebraic calculations,algebraic concepts,algebraic problem solving),general cognitive tasks(Raven test,mixed lattice test),and spatial ability tasks(three-dimensional mental rotation,Spatial working memory,origami tasks,mosaic graphics).Participants conduct behavioral experiments on the multi-dimensional platform of Beijing Normal University,using correlation and regression techniques to explore the relationship between algebraic processing and spatial capabilities.The results found that(1)spatial ability is significantly related to Tibetan students' algebraic calculations and arithmetic calculations,with spatial working memory being the strongest;(2)spatial ability is related to Tibetan students' algebraic concepts and algebraic problem solving.But after controllig gender,age,and general cognitive tasks,the correlation is no longer significant.There is no correlation with solving arithmetic problems;(3)General cognitive ability will significantly affect the algebraic processing of Tibetan students;(4)There is no significant gender difference in the algebraic processing and spatial ability of Tibetan students.Study Two examines the relationship between language ability and algebraic processing,and chooses to replace mathematical processing tasks(algebraic calculations,algebraic concepts,algebraic problem solving),general cognitive tasks(Raven test,mixed lattice test),and language ability tasks(character recognition,vocabulary identification,identification of true and false characters,and semantic biological judgment).The study uses correlation and regression techniques to explore the relationship between algebraic processing and language ability.The results found that(1)language ability is significantly related to Tibetan students' algebraic calculations and arithmetic calculations,among which the word meaning tasks show the strongest correlation;(2)language ability is significantly related to Tibetan students' algebraic concepts and algebraic problem solving,among which the word phonetic tasks show the strongest correlation.There is a correlation with the solution of arithmetic problems,but after controlling for gender,age and general cognitive tasks,the correlation is no longer significant;(3)There are significant gender differences in the language ability and arithmetic processing of Tibetan students.Through research,the main conclusions are as follows:(1)Spatial ability has a significant predictive effect in the algebraic calculation tasks of Tibetan students,but has a weak predictive effect in algebraic problem solving and algebraic concept tasks;(2)Language ability has a significant role in algebraic calculations,algebraic concepts,and algebraic problem solving tasks of Tibetan students;(3)General cognitive ability will significantly affect algebraic processing.(4)Algebraic processing is greatly affected by spatial ability,and arithmetic processing is greatly affected by language ability.
